Sports have been in schools for many years, and a lot of kids play sports all around the world. Kids should participate in school sports because participation in school sports helps athletes in school, school sports helps kids be active, and school sports helps kids learn more about life.

This helps kids with health promotion and what your kid does to his body. There is evidence that kids should not participate in school sports because “It is reported that some NFL football players have exhibited signs of Alzheimer’s in there 40s as a result of concussions” (Cohen). So if kids get a concussion when they are younger could get Alzheimer’s in there 40s as a result of concussions. There is an estimation two million high school students have got concussions and other injuries. So many kids got hurt that there were 500,000 doctor visits and 30,000 hospitalizations each year (Facts: Sports activity and Children). However, kids who play sports have better grades in school, build friendships, and teaches kids life lessons. Involving your child in sports is important part of growing up. There are several benefits to children playing sports. The child will learn how to make friends outside of school, church, and family. It will help develop self-esteem and physical skills. They discover what it means to be a member of a team, and how to win and lose with self-respect. Children also need to be active every day; exercise promotes growth and improves physical and emotional health. Many children are getting hurt in sports, and the benefits , may not be worth the countless concussions. The brains of young children have not fully developed and hard hits to the head can be life-threatening. The Roque News wrote an article on students playing sports, and they said, “In 2009 two high school students died from multiple hits to the head…”(McGough 1). Now innocent teenagers died from a contact sport. The constant jarring of the head finally killed two high schools students providing sports can be extremely dangerous. There are some downsides that make school sports an inadequate decision.
Playing sports gives kids confidence. Have you ever played a sport? Have you ever felt the rush when you score a goal, shoot a basket, hit a homerun, run the fastest, throw the farthest, score a point, or anything else that made you feel good in a sport. One would feel excited and would be “praised” for their accomplishment. When this happens a person would be very confident in themselves and proud.

The children could have quit because they did not like the disappointment of losing, or because they are exhausted from their parents pushing them too hard. But parents have their reasons for pushing their children into sports. “Studies show that kids who play sports are less likely to become obese, abuse drugs or alcohol or to perform poorly in school” (McCormick). If children are not active, then they will most likely become overweight, and if they have nothing to do in their pastime, they may turn to drugs and alcohol, which usually leads to a decrease in grades in school.

The parents believe physical activity is important for their children, just like any parent would say, but they also believe life lessons, as well as experiences are important, and they gain that from sports. The article states that 76% of adults who have children in high school, or middle school, encourage their kids to play sports at a young age.
