Problems with the world’s food are caused because of, global warming, growth in population and problematic weather conditions, but can be solved using GMO’s. For people to accept what GMO’s are, they must first understand what they are and the reasons why they could possibly save their lives in the future. Many people are under the impression that genetically modified foods are artificial food and are loaded with chemicals. But if this were true, the government would not permit the commerce of genetically modified food. It is crucial that people conquer their fear of genetically modified food and realise its benefits Also, GMO’s are still at the beginning stages of development and continue to improve because of scientific advancements.
People deserve to hold the right perception about GM crops and there companies. GM foods are not the solution to a better life and in my opinion only lead to more problems that is why I am against the use and production of Genetically Modified foods
Over the past decade, there has been much debate on the topic of genetically modified foods. It has been questioned whether or not these products benefit society more than they hurt it. There has not been enough time to study the long term affects of this type of food, but recent findings have shown that the field offers great potential. There are many people who wish to see genetically modified foods banned because they are uncomfortable with the idea, but this type of thinking is completely illogical. Our society should be more accepting towards genetically modified foods because they are a great way to feed our growing population, extra nutrients can be added to the foods, and they offer us a wider, cheaper variety of food.
Genetically Modified Foods can cause allergies, destroy ecosystems, and are dangerous to eat. Therefore they should not be allowed to distribute them in our supermarkets. Genetically Modified Foods are a health hazard and will not improve anything except create more world issues. Genetically Modified Foods should not be mistaken with Hybrid crops. Hybrid crops are plants whom breed with other plants producing a better offspring, for the consumtion of the consumer.
Biologists now transfer genes at will from one organism to another, designing new living things to meet specific needs. Throughout research paper I will be talking about genetically modified organism. I will talk about the procedure and how they are developed. The big question is how do scientist are to do this? Scientist use their knowledge of the structure of DNA and its chemical properties to study and change DNA molecules.
In a time before genetically modified crops were as common as they are today, the use of the crop was to feed a person or use in a way to gain money. It was the responsibility of other aspects of crop growing to deter pests and keep the plant healthy. Genetically modified crops and foods are now coupled with the “proper” use of the crop and responsible for the other phase of growing crops. Many ecologists b... ... middle of paper ... ... growing of genetically modified foods may be damaging the environment and the ecosystem but when it comes to the labeling debate my opinion is a solid no despite the fears and unknown that are associated with the food. The debate over labeling genetically modified foods in Colorado revolves around the economic, health and consumer choice aspects of GM foods.
But opponents for GMO continue to fight and protest the safety of any GMO’s and are we truly ready for them, currently agricultural plants are one of the most frequently used examples of genetically modified organisms, some benefits of genetic engineering in agriculture are increased crop yields, which advocates believe will reduced the costs of food and reduce the need for pesticides. They also believe that they enhance the nutrient composition of food quality and is resistance to pests and disease, many feel that using GMO’s can benefit the world 's growing
Scientist discovered how to alter and single out certain genes. This means that they can transfer genes to another organism which in turn makes it possible for scientist to “engineer” the characteristics of that organism to produce a new variety. This method is now used in production of medicine, pharmaceuticals and now genetically modified plants and animals. What is genetically modified food? Genetically modified foods are foods produced from organisms where there genetic makeup was altered specifically by using the methods of genetic engineering.
In order to understand the controversy, we have to know the meaning of genetically modified foods. With new technological advances, scientists can modify seeds from a conventional seed to a high tech seed with shorter maturation times and resistance to dryness, cold and heat. This is possible with the implementation of new genes into the DNA of the conventional seed. Once these "transgenes" are transferred, they can create plants with better characteristics (Harris 164-165). The farmers love it not only because it guarantees a good production, but the cost is also reduced.
The only engineered foods you may see will not be the soybeans or potatoes that have more protein or less fat but the herbicide resistant corn or pest resistant wheat. These foods have shown to be profitable for both farmers and corporations. Consumers have been wary of these modified foods since the Flavr Savr tomato, the first consumer orientated genetically modified organism (GMO), hit the market, prompting biotechnology firms to focus their research on the cash crops: soybeans, corn and wheat. These large corporations are after the profit if there are benefits to society then that is only an afterthought. “Biotechnology executives say it's too complex and costly to create innovative fruits and vegetables that farmers might not plant in large numbers and consumers might not be willing to pay more for, or even accept,”(Fulmer 2).
