Around four hundred million people speak English in the world.” (Brandon Brice, Why English Should Be Official Language of the United States Sept 2016) The language of English originated in Britain in the sixth or seventh century. It comes from three different periods of time; Old English (Anglo Saxon), Middle English, and Modern English. The English language is utilized all around the world in various countries where it may or may not be the official language. There are currently twenty-eight U.S. states that have made English as their official language in the state governments. Those states are: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas,California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusett, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, and Wyoming.(Davey Hiskey, The United States Does not Have an Official Language) The United States government has made the English language the official language of it. This means all government activities in the United States use the English language to communicate. Even so there are still translators at these activities translating to whoever may need it. To have an official language in the United States it would take quite a bit of work to achieve. The United States Constitution would have to be amended to declare the English language as its official language. The English language is used all around the country. It is used with businesses, schools, public places, newspapers, and television broadcasts. These items are broadcasted in the English language. They may be a translated into another language but the main and first language is English. The people of the United States should not have to learn a new language just for the fun of it. Someone may not want to learn a new language just to speak to someone that they would probably never have a face to face conversation. If it is not required the American people will likely not want to learn a new language that may not even use. The people that would have to learn multiple languages if they want to talk to all the citizens of the United
