Is it okay for kids to have YouTube channels? This question is troubling many parents with children today. With the recent rise of social media among children in recent years, new problems and questions have arisen over whether it is okay for kids to have YouTube channels and actively post to them for the world to see. Children should not be allowed to have YouTube channels for several reasons regarding safety, bullying, and better alternatives to YouTube. If someone uploads an embarrassing video, it is likely they will be ridiculed not only in person, but in the comments section of their video too. The idea of being a celebrity may seem fun, but to the contrary, it is a lot of hard work and can easily have detrimental effects to a kid’s well-being. Kids should not have to suffer the consequences of being in the public eye, especially because they are at a crucial stage in their development. Children are children, and they need to stay children in order to grow and learn. Child stars like Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber are only two examples of kids who were damaged by the public spotlight.
