SHOULD CELL PHONES BE BANNED? What is a cell phone? When did the cell phone come out? Cell phones are electronic devices used for communicating. Engineer Martin Cooper was the first individual who made the first public cell phone in 1973 (Browning). Later on, the cell phone became the most important tool for our daily life in the modern world. Today society is a cell phone-controlled world, to some degree. For example, talking too much over cellphones can damage hearing. Another example is using cellphones for a long period or too much is bad for the eyes. The vision of the eyes can get weaker by looking at the cell phone screen. According to the article Does staring at screens all day really damage your eyes?, found that 61 percent of Americans have experienced eye strain after prolonged use of electronic devices — nearly 2 out of every 3 people (Hill). One of my friends in school was wearing glasses when I saw her one day. I said, “What happened? Why are you wearing glasses?” She said, “My eyes are in pain.” She told me that she had been typing all night on her cell phone. The reflected light that comes from electronic devices’ screens can cause eyestrain because of long-period concentration on the screens. Furthermore, cell phone can also damage the brain and possibly cause brain tumors. On the other hand, people can know the weather conditions without using cell phones on the roads while they’re driving. For example, they can watch television weather before leaving their homes. This can help drivers easily know the situation on the road. When it comes to communicating with people, one can connect people without using cell phones in other ways, for example, by sending a letter or an email to the people whom they want to contact. .
