Cosmetics is a very powerful promising industry. People buy different sorts of product for the sake of beauty which is a result of massive profits for this beauty global business. Hidden in this production is the unfortunate situation that animals are getting inhumanely treated. Over 100 million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused in US labs every year (dosomething.org).There are rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats and mice that are being experimented and tested for the sake of cosmetics. The physical well being of these animals should not be jeopardised for material needs. The U.S should ban animal testing in the Makeup Industry. The U.S should ban animal testing because this process is incapable of yielding same results for humans. Animals are different with humans, physiologically. According to statistics, 94% of drugs that pass animal tests fail in human clinical trials. (understanding animal research). After successful attempts in animals, many human trials fail for reasons of infectivity or unsafety. There are many other alternatives that are more humane and does not use animal testing and is still equally effective. One of which is the Bovine Corneal Opacity and Permeability test. This is the method which uses cornea tissue, a slaughterhouse byproduct, in place of live rabbits (Katrinak). This is the time to stop wasting the live of animals for unnecessary experiments. Among others are in vitro method such as Cytosensor, Microphysiometer tests and EpiOcular, where examiners check for irritation by the number of cells killed through a tissue model (Katrinak).
