CHAPTER FIVE The Enchanted Amulet Dust closed in all around us the next day as we set out. "We 're off an adventure," Cotton yawned as he jumped over a huge tumbleweed. "And I don 't see any witch anywhere hurray! This will be exciting, just you and me on a quest to find the golden key." "I hope we can find it. The sooner the better my parent 's lives are at stake," I said and continued to clomp along. "Oh no worries lad, we 'll find it," he shouted and jumped into the air clicking his clogs together twice. "This kind of stuff is so exhilarating. You have no idea how bored I 've been. All these years alone with no one to talk to and nothing to do, but sit around all day and think," he said as we continued our long track across the bleak …show more content…
"No it didn 't sound like that." "A rustle?" "No not like that either." "A hiss?" "No, it was more like a whooshing noise. As a matter of fact, it sounded like gusts of wind above our heads. Anyway, I yelled at them to follow me. I wanted to hide out in our hollow till whatever it was past. But alas the foul creature carried them off. I didn 't ever have a chance to say good-bye," he groaned, sniffled and wiped away several tears that were streaming down his little red cheeks. "What did you do?" I said. "I immediately went to King Zander and told him what had happened, he gave me this," he said and pulled a necklace out of his shirt. "What is that?" "It 's an enchanted amulet. See that green gemstone right there?" he asked, pointing to a huge chunk of rock. "Yeah I see that," I nodded, staring at the stone. "It 's solid jade. Zander gave me the amulet and explained that I could use it to ward off witches. So I wrapped it around my neck and went out and searched and searched for my family, but they were gone." "Gone where?" "I 'm sure, maybe hidden in one of the witch 's caves, or maybe even in your world," he whispered moving a little closer. "Now is our chance to find …show more content…
"I can 't stay here I stuff to do." "Yep I know so do I. How did you get here?" I said again. "I went over to your house to work on that science project, remember we 're lab partners and its due on Monday?" "Sure I remember. How could I possibly forget Mr. Mile 's torture, I mean class." "Well I knocked on the door and it just swung open on its own. I thought that was strange and I was afraid that something happened. So naturally I called for you before I entered, but there wasn 't any answer. I went in and looked around," Emma added. "Of course you did dear," Cotton said in a comforting manor and stepped closer. "Well then I walked into your room and I saw a very creepy goblin sitting in a rocking chair. He sprinkled something in the air and I was under his spell," she said and paused for moment and adjusted her glasses. "Was it a light blue power?" I asked. "Yes, it was. It so was weird, once I breathed it in, I couldn 't move. I just stood there and watched him rock back and forth for a long time. Then he suddenly grabbed me and tossed me through the mirror. I ran and tried to find a place to hide, but I was captured by that wicked witch. So I don 't want to cut the fun short," she said with a hollow laugh, "but how do we get out of
" What is it " I asked looking at them in concern. Voltaire pushes them out the door and hushes them. He brought back a small piece of armor and I looked in the reflection.
“this is going to be a treasure” Kristina stated from the other side of the room
"I-I'm not afraid! Actually, I'm going to go see what it was." She turned and marched to the door, looked back with a snooty look, and walked into the room.
She came stumbling across the room toward him. "I want it," she said quietly. "You've not destroyed it?"
“Yeah, a small bug maybe,” Seventeen muttered, who was a bit less optimistic about their chances. She tightened her grip on her own spear as she peered round into the jungle gloom. “Stop making so much noise, will you? The dream demon could be hunting us right now. And why did we decide to leave at dusk, again?”
“Do you want to see whats under that sheet?” said Ervin, pointing at the tall object.
“Not a gift, but an heirloom. Anya gave these to me when I left on my destiny quest.”
“She said that she would be back in a couple of minutes.” He said while he was trying to memorize his lines.
“It was just a hallucination, a dream. The whole thing was just a trick.” Merlin explained.
“I... I don’t know.” Cerea said since she marked the quest without reading the details. She opened the scroll.
“Did I ever tell you about the troll I met in the Forbidden Forest?” he asked.
"Barely," Poe laughed. He ran his fingers through his thick, dark hair in an attempt to remove the sand he felt clinging to each strand. "It's quite a crazy story actually. You may not believe it."
"They found you unconscious with the necklace thingy, and they placed it on me. I feel much better now."
I picked up the link and held it toward him, the metal oily and strangely skinlike now with the slanting sun entering the window. "Would you care to examine it, Brother? One of our members wore it nineteen years on the chain gang."
