"Bud, not Buddy" Buds mother doesn’t know he snuck out! "Bud, not Buddy" would be completely different if Buds mom wasn't dead. Bud wouldn't have to search for his father by himself, but he still chooses to. He could have better resources of where he was. Bud would have never met Lefty Lewis. It would have made it a lot easier on Bud if his mom wasn’t dead. She wouldn’t die if there was a hospital there for her. Bud found his grandfather instead of his father. Hermon E. Calloway (Buds grandpa) let him stay with him. First, Bud was on his way to Grand Rapids when this man finds Bud. His name was Lefty Lewis. He questioned his mom about it and she said that they would visit his grandfather soon. Bud walked back to his room and as usual hid mom sang him a song. Bud fell asleep in a blink of an eye. Bud slept peacefully throughout the night. Bud could tell his mother was lonely so he thought he would go and try to find his dad. Bud snuck out while his mother was sleeping. He really wanted to do this for his mother. He had to figure out where his dad was. He went behind a building and saw a strange man driving around. So, he had to hide. Without a doubt Bud knew that this man knew who Bud was. The man tried to ask Bud who he was. Bud told him his name. Bud asked the same question and he told Bud that his name was Hermon Calloway. Bud asked him where he lived. Hermon said that he lived in Grand Rapids. Bud asked him if he knew his grandpa because that’s where Buds grandpa lived. Bud asked if he knew Mr. Caldwell. Hermon out of nowhere asked who is Mother was. Bud didn’t really know this man so he wasn’t just going to tell him so he told him to come with
