Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of the newest fields in Science and Engineering. Work started in earnest soon after World War II, and the name itself was coined in 1956 by John McCarthy. Artificial Intelligence is an art of creating machines that perform functions that require intelligence when performed by people [Kurzweil, 1990]. It encompasses a huge variety of subfields, ranging from general (learning and perception) to the specific, such as playing chess, proving mathematical theorems, writing poetry, driving a car on the crowded street, and diagnosing diseases. Artificial Intelligence is relevant to any intellectual task; it is truly a Universal field. In future, intelligent machines will replace or enhance human’s capabilities in …show more content…
The related concept of Ambient Intelligence (AMI) cuddles greater user-approachable, more efficient services support, user-empowerment and support for human interactions. A future vision for ITS is described with reference to efficient road traffic management, services for smart travelers making inter-model journeys, smart cars, cooperative systems and automated highways. Cyber Technology is another area where AI will contribute in future. According to researcher Shimon Whiteson in future, we will be able to augment ourselves with computers and enhance many of our own natural abilities. Cyborg Intelligence aims to integrate AI with biological intelligence closely and deeply by connecting computer systems and biological systems via Brain-Machine-Interfaces (BMI’s), enhancing strengths and compensating for the weakness of both systems by combining the biological systems perceptive and cognitive abilities with the computer systems computational …show more content…
In Video Games AI will be used to generate reactive behaviors primarily in supporting characters of the game, similar to human-like cognitive abilities. With a help of AI, supporting characters will able to find a route from one end to another following the main player trail, taking consideration the topography, hurdles and possibly war conditions. It can also be used to know if the player is nearby the opponent, various sensing abilities like seeing, hearing, or opponents can cheat by knowing main player’s position, this can be done by querying game engines. All these functions are recently included in Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
Artificial Intelligence is a term not too widely used in today’s society. With today’s technology we haven’t found a way to enable someone to leave their physical body and let their mind survive within a computer. Could it be possible? Maybe someday, but for now it’s just in theory. The novel by William Gibson, Neuromancer, has touched greatly on the idea of artificial intelligence. He describes it as a world where many things are possible. By simply logging on the computer, it opens up a world we could never comprehend. The possibilities are endless in the world of William Gibson.
Although in the end, artificial intelligence would not be beneficial, many believe that the benefits would be rewarding. One positive use of robots is that they could be programmed to fight in wars. It is believed that by 2015, missions can make use of the robots in the armed forces (Vesely). The development of robotic soldiers may be able to reduce the death toll and save many lives. What many individuals do not understand is that robots are emotionless and should not be trusted to make life or death decisions. AI technology surpasses human intelligence when it comes to calculations among other things, but what makes humans more intelligent than other mammals is the ability to think and emote to situations, which robots cannot do. Another advantage to using artificial intelligence is using it for space exploration. Losing a robot in space, at worst, would only lose money. If a human were to be lost ...
The official foundations for "artificial intelligence" were set forth by A. M. Turing, in his 1950 paper "Computing Machinery and Intelligence" wherein he also coined the term and made predictions about the field. He claimed that by 1960, a computer would be able to formulate and prove complex mathematical theorems, write music and poetry, become world chess champion, and pass his test of artificial intelligences. In his test, a computer is required to carry on a compelling conversation with humans, fooling them into believing they are speaking with another human. All of his predictions require a computer to think and reason in the same manner as a human. Despite 50 years of effort, only the chess championship has come true. By refocusing artificial intelligence research to a more humanlike, cognitive model, the field will create machines that are truly intelligent, capable of meet Turing's goals. Currently, the only "intelligent" programs and computers are not really intelligent at all, but rather they are clever applications of different algorithms lacking expandability and versatility. The human intellect has only been used in limited ways in the artificial intelligence field, however it is the ideal model upon which to base research. Concentrating research on a more cognitive model will allow the artificial intelligence (AI) field to create more intelligent entities and ultimately, once appropriate hardware exists, a true AI.
Artificial intelligence has come a long way since the first robot. In 1950, Alan Turing of Britain publishes, Computer Machinery and Intelligence. This book was proposed to be the birth of artificial intelligence as we know it. The first robot that presents the usage of artificial intelligence was built in 1969. The purpose of this robot was to try out navigation using basic tools such as cameras and bump sensors (Marshall 371). Since then, we have made a million robots way better than this one and we’re going to continue doing so. While the world advances, so is technology. It’s slowly progressing and become better and more reliable. Artificial intelligence is a certain type of technology that is resourceful to our nation. We are using it in the medical field, it’s been helpful to military forces, and it’s helping our world become a better place.
One of the hottest topics that modern science has been focusing on for a long time is the field of artificial intelligence, the study of intelligence in machines or, according to Minsky, “the science of making machines do things that would require intelligence if done by men”.(qtd in Copeland 1). Artificial Intelligence has a lot of applications and is used in many areas. “We often don’t notice it but AI is all around us. It is present in computer games, in the cruise control in our cars and the servers that route our email.” (BBC 1). Different goals have been set for the science of Artificial Intelligence, but according to Whitby the most mentioned idea about the goal of AI is provided by the Turing Test. This test is also called the imitation game, since it is basically a game in which a computer imitates a conversating human. In an analysis of the Turing Test I will focus on its features, its historical background and the evaluation of its validity and importance.
The concept of Multiple Intelligences has come out after Howard Gardner redefined intelligence. According to Gardner’s theory, human beings have different types of intelligence and based on their respective intelligence types, human beings have different skills in different areas. Human beings can be more successful and productive on areas they are skillful. Therefore, choosing appropriate professions, in accordance with one’s intelligence type, is important for individuals as well as for the society. This study aims to develop a technique to help high school students in the profession selection process using artificial intelligence. Questionnaire has been utilized as the research method and the data have been analyzed via Fuzzy Logic Toolbox which is subunit of the software called MATLAB. It was aimed to direct students to appropriate profession and build more successful and productive professions.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) will seamlessly integrate virtual and physical worlds. To ensure the success of AI three premises have to be actualized: functionalism, hardware capacity to mimic human thought, and the software to convert the gains in hardware advances (McGinnis 1256). The possibilities of AI extend from the synergistic union of the human brain with ambient intelligent environments, to neurocomputation ushering in an entirely new intelligence era. The proper supervision of Artificial Intelligence will guide the positive advancement of technology; additionally, the advantages of AI will range from improved quality of life to the facilitation of national security on and off the battlefield.
This story is that, during the mid 21 century, because of the thaw of the iceberg that was floating in the Arctic, thus human created the Artificial Intelligence to help themselves to face the terrible environment easily. David is a robot like them. But he is the only one that is written into the love. As the first robot has love, he became the experimental article to be a kid for a couple who lost their son. As the time goes by, David still can’t join this family, and the couple thinks he can’t rather than their son exactly, so they make a decision to send to the company that created him to destroy him. However, they didn’t want to finally, but David can’t stay with them anymore. David thinks they don’t like him because he is not a real boy, if he can be a real boy, he will hear stories by his mother before he goes to bed, although he never need to sleep. So he still has a dream that one day, he will be a real boy, because he wants to be with his mother. His best friend and guide, Teddy helped him to find his dream and he says he will see him become a real boy. There is only one hope, Blue Fairy can help him to achieve him dream. However, you know, he did find her, but he was freezed with his best hope, Blue Fairy...
IBM however has done the imaginable, created a cognitive computer that can compete against human which is an amazing feat and is a great accomplishment in the computing industry. However it does not stop there as IBM Watson was introduce in medical facilities, and is able to do data analysis and physician training. This made a breakthrough in medical science. Since it is able to help doctors match patients with clinical trials and also observer and improve treatment plans (Yuan, 2011). Watson is just the first implementation of a smart computer that can understand and learn new data. Since cognitive systems are being perfected and fine-tuned to better deal with immense amount of information. Watson can learn raw information, since it canned be trained so it can be introduced to complex health care challenges that is hard to treat and the outcome is known. By letting it learn and diagnose the sickness, it provide the best treatment it recommends. And possibly one day this system will be able to learn on its own without any human programing. In addition to processing power, cognitive system will also be able to communicate with people, be able to analyze behaviors, languages and our mannerism which will definitely shape the
To begin, the main issue of development of Artificial Intelligence is the economic factors. Firstly, one of the main negative effects of AI on economy is unemployment. According to the suggesting of Carl Benedikt Frey and Michael A. Osborne of Oxford University during next 20 years 47 per cent of all USA jobs under the threat and will be replaced with intelligence machines (Vincent). If jobs will be automated, people will lose their workplaces and it is becomes one of the harmful problems not only for economy, but also for society. Because, if people will not have a workplace, they will not be able to provide their needs. Furthermore, development of AI can be a reason of increasing inequality of wages. For instance, the salaries of computer workers approximately earn 10 to 15 percent more than others. (Frey and Osborne). It is also one of the economic problems because it can lead to discontent of workers who hav...
As our research into science and technology ever increases its seems inevitable that in the near future Artificial Intelligent machines will exist and become part of our everyday life such as we see with modern computers today.
In order to see how artificial intelligence plays a role on today’s society, I believe it is important to dispel any misconceptions about what artificial intelligence is. Artificial intelligence has been defined many different ways, but the commonality between all of them is that artificial intelligence theory and development of computer systems that are able to perform tasks that would normally require a human intelligence such as decision making, visual recognition, or speech recognition. However, human intelligence is a very ambiguous term. I believe there are three main attributes an artificial intelligence system has that makes it representative of human intelligence (Source 1). The first is problem solving, the ability to look ahead several steps in the decision making process and being able to choose the best solution (Source 1). The second is the representation of knowledge (Source 1). While knowledge is usually gained through experience or education, intelligent agents could very well possibly have a different form of knowledge. Access to the internet, the la...
The approach to artificial intelligence should be proceeded with caution. Throughout recent years and even decades before, it has been a technological dream to produce artificial intelligence. From movies, pop culture, and recent technological advancements, there is an obsession with robotics and their ability to perform actions that require human intelligence. Artificial intelligence has become a real and approachable realization today, but should be approached with care and diligence. Humans can create advanced artificial intelligence but should not because of the harm they may cause, the monumental advancement needed in the technology, and that its harm outweighs its benefits.
Artificial Intelligence is the scientific theory to advance the scientific understanding of the mechanisms underlying thought and intelligent behavior and their embodiment in machines. This is going to hold the key in the future. It has always fa...
Artificial Intelligence “is the ability of a human-made machine to emulate or simulate human methods for the deductive and inductive acquisition and application of knowledge and reason” (Bock, 182). The early years of artificial intelligence were seen through robots as they exemplified the advances and potential, while today AI has been integrated society through technology. The beginning of the thought of artificial intelligence happened concurrently with the rise of computers and the dotcom boom. For many, the utilization of computers in the world was the most advanced role they could ever see machines taking. However, life has drastically changed from the 1950s. This essay will explore the history of artificial intelligence, discuss the
