All guards must have to follow his instructions as well as the prisoners. But, Norton was totally acted opposite to good leader. He was typical hypocrite. He believes in severe brutal punishments. He doesn’t listen to any explanation and allowed his guards to beat prisoners usually with no good reason. He was doing illegal things in imprisonment and instill inside out program for his own benefits by forcefully taking work by the prisoners. In Shaw shank prison, warden was misusing his power. He was talking Cheap labor by forcefully influence the prisoners to work for the constructing project for which they can underbid the local contractors. He skimmed money from those projects for his own benefits. He takes bribe from the other contractor’s. He steals the extra money, which he skims off through buying expensive equipment’s. He forces Andy into the criminal activities.

Foucault’s understanding of power and surveillance provided little to no justification for the institution’s downfall. This paper will argue that the Penitentiary model failed due to poor administration, harsh disciplinary practices and the perpetuation of gender inequalities.
