Sharp Beak

The Lacerta volanti (AKA Flyzer) has a very sharp-tipped beak. This was adapted into the species for one main reason, and that was to kill small fish. This is not a typical beak where they scoop up fish, they spear their food with it. To effectively use the beak, the Flyzer starts up in a tree over a pond in the swamp. They jump out of the tree and glide around over the pond area until they see a fish of suitable size. When the right fish has been spotted, the Flyzer comes out of orbit, folds up its wings, and almost becomes a torpedo, coming straight for the fish. They pierce the water and spear the fish with the sharp beak, then drag the fish out of the water, and starts eating.

The muscular tail on the Flyzer is a result of trial and error over 3.4 million years. The very first traits of change happened near mountain ranges in the southeastern part of Australia. The animal that eventually became the flyzer was moving from the mountains, to the more northern part of the continent. They were doing this because the mountains were getting colder as the years went on, and more and more of these animals were dying.

They started their trip north, and at the start, even though they still had tails, they were not much of use besides scaring off predators. The first big hurdle that they had to overcome was crossing the vein of rivers in the southeast, such as Darling, Bulloo, and the Thomson river. These rivers were devastating to the population and nearly cause extinction. At the time, they did not have their wings, so they were forced to swim across them.

One of the many problems with swimming across these rivers was that they were often split away from the group because of the strong current. And because of that they would often drown. Only the strongest males and females made it across, and normally the strongest also had the longest tails. The strongest came to be because they had a mutation that affected their muscle grown hormones, causing them to be very
