Shared Tradition During the summer there are an exceedingly amount of El Salvadorian holidays and festivals. In fact, their celebrations are tremendous celebrations especially in San Salvador. (“El Salvador Holidays and Festivals,” n.d.). In addition, there are eight major holidays and festivals that which El Salvadorians participate in. For starters, Easter is centers their attention on honoring their patron saint. When it comes to Holy Week, commonly know as Semana Santa to the locals, is a week long religious celebration that takes place at the end of March all the way through Easter. (“El Salvador Holidays and Festivals,” n.d.). The four primary festivals are known as Palm Festival, July Festival, August Festival, and Balls of Fire
Foreigners have more trouble understanding Dia de Los Muertos than any of Mexico's other celebrations. At first glance, they see Day of the Dead decorations which are colored paper garlands, little skeletons performing daily tasks and sugar skulls inscribed with names, which remind them of Halloween. Other tourists discover that much like Memorial or Remembrance Day in the US, families here visit, clean and decorate graves of loved ones for the November 1 and 2 holidays. Many families honor their ancestors and dead with different traditions, which I will be telling u about.
As the United States developed and grew, upward mobility was central to the American dream. It was the unstated promise that no matter where you started, you had the chance to grow and proceed beyond your initial starting point. In the years following the Civil War, the promise began to fade. People of all races strived to gain the representation, acknowledgement and place in this society. To their great devastation, this hope quickly dwindled. Social rules were set out by the white folk, and nobody could rise above their social standing unless they were seen fit to be part of the white race. The social group to be impacted the most by this “social rule” was the African Americans. Black folk and those who were sympathetic to the idea of equal rights to blacks were targeted by the Ku Klux Klan. (Burton, 1998) The turning point in North Carolina politics was the Wilmington Race Riot of 1898. It was a very bold and outrageous statement from the white supremacists to the black folk. The Democratic white supremacists illegally seized power from the local government and destroyed the neighborhood by driving out the African Americans and turning it from a black-majority to a white-majority city. (Class Discussion 10/3/13) This event developed the idea that even though an African American could climb a ladder to becoming somebody in his or her city, he or she will never become completely autonomous in this nation. The hispanic culture has many traditions but another important one is el Día de Reyes and la Rosca de Reyes: It is a Mexican tradition that Mexicans celebrate. This used to be the real Santa Claus at least in Mexico and while kids aren’t complaining about getting gifts from both days, we shouldn't lose the beautiful tradition. Getting the family together to cut the Rosca de Reyes or Three Kings Bread, is a great tradition where if you get the muñequito or Niño Dios, and is found then you have to host a Tamal party on February 2 for the Candelabra.

In Alice Walker's "Everyday Use," the message about the preservation of heritage, specifically African-American heritage, is very clear. It is obvious that Walker believes that a person's heritage should be a living, dynamic part of the culture from which it arose and not a frozen timepiece only to be observed from a distance. There are two main approaches to heritage preservation depicted by the characters in this story. The narrator, a middle-aged African-American woman, and her youngest daughter Maggie, are in agreement with Walker. To them, their family heritage is everything around them that is involved in their everyday lives and everything that was involved in the lives of their ancestors. To Dee, the narrator's oldest daughter, heritage is the past - something to frame or hang on the wall, a mere artistic, aesthetic reminder of her family history. Walker depicts Dee's view of family heritage as being one of confusion and lack of understanding.
It was Christmas Eve. I sat, huddled in a ball, behind the armchair in my living room. I was trying to be as still and patient as I could be. I remember moments where I held my breath thinking if she heard me breathe, she would leave and I would never get a chance to see her. I could feel myself drifting off to sleep, but I tried to resist. All I wanted was to see her just once. Usually, I would be scared at the thought of a witch, but she was different. Social judgment is negatively impacted by the fear of breaking tradition. Tradition can deteriorate good moral sense over time. Tradition tends to manipulate younger generation’s judgment. “The Lottery” illustrates how ignorance to tradition can negatively manipulate social judgment.
