The book was made by Leigh Bardugo who was born on Jerusalem, and she was pretty must raise in Los Angeles, believe or not it was actually her first novel she wrote after finishing college at Yale university. It all starts with our main protagonist Alina Starkov, who later discover the only thing she never know about herself, so choosing her own power Alina was giving a choice to save the world and save her love one from and the dark.
The story first start in a land call Ravka, Alina Starkov as a survivor of the Border War was raise in a orphan with her best friend Mal, not giving a choice the Grisha(special powerful figure who procession the use of magic) visit the orphan one a year to pick out the young student so they can train them to fight against the Fold( was a huge area surround by darkness).So as year pass by Mal and Alina was taken to the military, so they can be train to join the First Army or aka the surveying unit. Mal is now a profession tracker probably one of the best, while Alina is a mapmaker who help make map while on the trip. As they are preparing to entering the Shadow Fold with the squad, so they can travel to West Ravaka, they got under attack by Volcra(Bird like creature), While being under attack by the Volcra, she shield herself to protect Mal, after being injured she emit a source of light that scare all of the volca, and save the rest of the first army. He includes horrific pictures and events that happen in the book, so this book’s genre is horror and mystery. He makes the book nerve racking, engaging, and a terrifying adventure. This book includes 215 pages of non-stop thrills.
The Broken Spears is a book written by Miguel Leon-Portilla that gives accounts of the fall of the Aztec Empire to the Spanish in the early 16th century. The book is much different from others written about the defeat of the empire because it was written from the vantage point of the Aztecs rather then the Spanish. Portilla describes in-depth many different reasons why the Spanish were successful in the defeat of such a strong Empire.
The fraud in the story “Skinwalkers” was committed for the sole purpose of getting back at the American government. The reasoning behind the fraud was because a treaty that was signed at Fort Summer decades ago. This treaty promised things to the Indian people things, which were never delivered, such as one teacher for every thirty residents. Basically Dr. Yellowhorse was now making the government reimburse the hospital for the bills of people who had already been released and even for people who were already deceased. The reason this was done so easily was because there were no death certificates for the deceased and many people that were dead had no date of death along with there name. The cases where Dr. Yellowhorse easily covered up people that were still living because he worked in the hospital and had access to the financial data. This meant it was almost effortless for him to file faulty reports as often as possible.

Ruta Sepetys was inspired to write a fiction book instead of a non-fiction book based on the stories she heard from survivors of the genocide during a visit to her relatives in Lithuania. She interviewed dozens of people during her stay. Between Shades of Gray was her first novel that she had written. This book was interpreted well enough by the readers to become a New York Times Bestseller.

Coming of age stories have the ability to take a concept that most people experience but shape them into unique experiences. For example, Quinceanera by Judith Ortiz Cofer and The Ball Poem both discuss coming of age to the narrator but went on different paths to reach this conclusion. Both deal with symbolism and having a trigger of sorts to start the process to come to age but each poem has a way to dealing with the aspect that we have a to grow up.
The book “Dead Girls Don’t Lie” written by Jennifer Shaw Wolf focuses on a variety of different ideas and topics, mostly fixating the murder of the main character’s best friend Rachel. With this also comes gang violence, lost and found relationships, and the fact that some people will go to great extents in order to keep a lethal secret from the public eye. Rachel and Jaycee were best friends up until 6 months before where the book started. But, an altercation between them caused the breakup of their long lasted friendship. It is soon found out that Rachel was shot through her bedroom window, which is at first suspected to be gang violence. Lynda Barry’s One Hundred Demons is based on the idea of drawing a “demon.” It is an assortment of seventeen short comics, containing themes of Barry’s childhood. Barry got the idea of drawing demons from a painting practice used by a Japanese monk from the sixteenth century, who painted demons on a hand-scroll (Barry 9). By making the decision to paint them in the form of comics, the demons come out in what she calls an autobifictionalography (Barry 4). The autobifictionalography tells the many stories of Lynda Barry’s childhood and teenage years through part autobiography and part fiction. Barry was often unaccepted; she has very few friends and got involved with sex and drugs at a young age (Barry 71). The relationship with her mother was very weak, but she had a very strong bond with her grandmother (“Lynda Barry”). To combine fact and fiction in her memoir is something you don’t see often. I consider Lynda Barry to be not only an author; but a story teller, artist, and very unique individual as well. Many books we read are very easy to predict; they tell a true story, mystery, adventure or maybe even a biography. Lynda Barry’s One Hundred Demons is a memoir of some truth facts and some made up ideas. When writing a memoir many authors give facts on what has happened in their life good or bad. Although Barry states many factual events in her life, she also states many fictitious events. Lynda Barry presents fact and fiction throughout her memoir in a very responsible manner. She has presented it in a way that reflects her way of life or the events she believes will happen throughout her life time.
Ronald Reagan once said, “We fought a war on poverty, and poverty won.” I read the book, Dancing in the dark by Morris Dickstein. This book was about the great depression, and the impacts it had on American life. The traditional thought of poverty, people dying of hunger and people lying in the roads, has been erased. America has abolished poverty by the traditional standards but the thought of poverty and what it is has changed. In America we consider poverty to be spending all your money on bills, so you have no money left for food to feed your family. We consider poverty to be just being poor. One-Third of our population makes less than $38,000. This is not enough to be able to be above the poverty line. Anything below this “line” is considered being poverty. How do they decide this line? They take the cost of a very basic diet, and they multiply it by three, for a family of three. That being said, One-half of the jobs in America pay below $38,000 a year, so no wonder we are losing the war on poverty.
In The Hungry Soul we find an interesting blend of subjects, methods, and traditions. This book is a fascinating exploration of the cultural and natural act of eating. Kass intensely reveals how the various aspects of this phenomenon, restrictions, customs, and rituals surrounding it, relate to collective and philosophical truths about the human being and its deepest pleasures. Kass argues throughout the book that eating (dining) is something that can either cultivate us or moralize us. My question is, does Kass succeed in arguing for the fact that eating is something that can moralize us as human beings? Although I agree with some of the things that Kass discussed in the book, in this paper I will argue mainly against some of his claims.
Alex and his friends went to the Ruin’s Anuk, an old abandoned temple, and when all of Alex’s friends were asleep something bad came out of the ruins. Alex met magical being’s called wraith’s. Wraiths are black, shadow creatures that can paralyze anyone, but Alex is not paralyze and has save his friend from the evil wraiths. The cause of Alex fighting the wraiths is the wraiths were telling lies to him and threatened his friends. The effect of Alex fighting the wraiths is that Alex almost dies because he did not learn enough magic. So, after he recovers he decides to do his best his best to learn more.
Prejudice is an issue that cannot be easily avoided in today's society. It has and always will have a huge impact on the discrimination that some people face based on religion, appearance, background, mental/physical disabilities and etc.
There is perhaps no greater joy in life than finding one’s soul mate. Once found, there is possibly no greater torment than being forced to live without them. This is the conflict that Paul faces from the moment he falls in love with Agnes. His devotion to the church and ultimately God are thrown into the cross hairs with the only possible outcome being one of agonizing humiliation. Grazia Deledda’s The Mother presents the classic dilemma of having to choose between what is morally right and being true to one’s own heart. Paul’s inability to choose one over the other consumes his life and everyone in it.
