Advertisers have many subtle ways of presenting advertisements to sell products, but many of these advertisements may go way beyond the selling of products. Advertisements with regard to violet sexual scenes may actually be sending subliminal messages that violence is okay. Looking at these advertisements it is not hard to see that there is a deeper meaning behind them then to just sell a product. With Sexual and violent Advertisement we may even be able to make the statement that rape, sexual assault and violence is alive and thriving in our society. Many Americans and Europeans are being desensitized by the vast of amount of violent advertisements. Advertisements that convey startling portrayals of women being assaulted, killed or even abused in today’s ads have brought an altogether new meaning to the violence against women through advertising.
Is the Duncan Quinn advertisement is selling suits and ties…for who men who hate women? At first glance the ad shows a black and white picture of a half-naked lifeless woman draped over a car with the strong indication that she was strangled with a tie. The tie is held by a self-satisfied smirking man standing by the car who is holding the neck tie that is around the woman’s neck. The man who is seen as dominate figure in the image standing superior to the women. The black and white portal of the ad was no mistake; it helps to contrast the lifeless woman across the car wearing only white bra and under wear. The women white clothing made to stand out more against the black back ground. The black back ground gives an ominous feel to the ad leading the viewer be believe that are now a part of some dark secret. The advertisers use female victims of violence as a shock tactic to draw viewers in to the ad. Theses advertisers have disregard the raging war agents the epidemic of violence, rape, murder and molestation that plagues most parts of the world. The major connection in the ads is violence to women thus making the statement to society that it is okay to abuse, molest, and violate women. How can discourage violence against women when advertisements encouraging it?
