General Purpose: To inform
Specific Purpose: To bring awareness about sexual assaults

I. Introduction

A. Attention Getter: Today’s society does a wonderful job blaming a rape survivor to blame their self for another person’s violence. Rape is an act of violence and is usually about the power and control over another person.

B. Credibility: There have been several people who have experience sexual violence, some who have tried to commit suicide due to the post-traumatic stress that it may cause. I myself, have had an experience and have advocated other victims of sexual violence and to get the proper treatment for healing.

A. Topic: Definitions of rape

1. Point: Rape is a crime of violence that uses sex as a weapon according to U.S. Department of Justice.

2. Point: Sexual battery is the oral, anal, or vaginal penetration by, or union with, the sexual organ of another or the anal or vaginal penetration of another by any other object.

3. Point: Consent cannot be given by anyone who is physically helpless, under age, mentally impaired, or under the influence of narcotics or other intoxicating substances.

1. Point: Sexual assault is one of the most under reported crimes, with 60% still being left unreported. Males are the least likely to report a sexual assault, though they make up about 10% of all victims.
