How Does a Dress Code Affect a Student’s Education and the Way They Feel? Most school’s you attend private or public will have a dress code. Every school will have different clothing items that fall into the dress code that is written into each school's handbook. Some people feel that dress code is unnecessary and sexist. Schools have dress code to keep everyone focused on their education and to keep students from distracting others. Many debates have occurred to decide whether dress code is necessary and if it should be practiced in schools. Having dress code permits students from expressing themselves and showing others who they are and what interests them. School dress codes have many pro’s, some of which are: everyone is dressed in an appropriate manner, no one can get distracted, everyone can focus on their education and no one is depicted higher than another based on what they wear. But what these students don't know is, that dress codes are considered a strategy to address the physical and psychological security of students. Also handbook content analysis revealed that eighty-four percent of their school's’ dress code is for safety reasons. Most school boards also have dress codes because it creates equality among students, to avoid distractions and to impart discipline. So believe it or not the school board has and makes dress codes policies for the safety of the students. School dress codes usually tend to make students uncomfortable and seem to take away their rights as a citizens to express themselves. School dress codes lean more toward girls and points out more clothing articles that they cannot wear then it does the boys. This is how dress code can be seen or perceived as sexist or unfair.
