While I was reading Sex Object: A Memoir by Jessica Valenti, many interesting topics were covered throughout the book. Some of those topics range from sexism, appropriation, and family. I came to find out that most things Valenti experienced while growing up still occurs to this date. Most men try to take advantage of young helpless women while placing a standard upon them. The part that saddens me the most is how most of these harassment cases go unpunished and unheard. Only if there was something out there that could be done to help women feeling violated or as if they’re being preyed on. Adult women aren’t the only ones men target, it can affect middle school students. Jessica shows a perfect example of this throughout her piece. This book was worth reading because it opened up a new perspective on how women feel doing everyday necessities in a man’s gaze. …show more content…

Personally, this has never happened to me, nor I’ve seen it in action. Women are much more than an object for a man’s entertainment. They are not objects, to begin with. Women are strong and independent human beings that deserve as much respect as a man does. What sets this book apart from the other selections is the feminism concept behind it. We get to see sexism and harassment in his full dangerous potential behind the eyes of the author. We realize how severe this issue is and how it affects a woman mentally. I certainly made the right choice of picking this book for this semester’s circle. I truly enjoyed every single page as it broadened my understanding towards feminism. I don’t regret this one
