Some people say sketching and sewing are the easiest things to do and some people live for fashion. In fashion, you need to know who is your audience, what trends are in, will people buy your clothing, and why is your collection special than others. Critiques are everywhere and they so judge about the design, fabric, even how the clothing is sowed. We need to care about fashion because we need to know how the design from a single sketch is made. How the fabric transfers to a skirt or a dress.
It is used in manual drafting to draw smooth curves of varying radii. The curve is placed on the drawing material, and a pencil/knife is traced around its curves to produce the desired result. In garment design they are mainly used for pattern drafting, pattern alteration
The task of sewing something may seem very complex but like anything else in life practice makes perfect. I will walk through the simple steps of making dress and why society is somewhat disapproving of seamstresses. First you must start by thinking and drawing up a design. I have a sketchbook that I keep all my designs in and whenever a design comes into my head the first thing I do is draw it out. Not everyone can design clothing so there is also premade patterns that you can buy.
Too, some quilters today, use computers to draft patterns and stitch quilts instead of drawing by hand with pen and paper and stitching by hand (Beyer 40). As stated by Mrs. Sara Shell, quilting club member of Winnfield, “There is nothing more beautiful than a hand stitched quilt. A quilt is a labor of love from the heart.” From the tombs of ancient Egypt to the present day, quilting has played a significant role in society. From ancient burial shrouds to elaborate wall hangings of the modern world, quilting tells a story of both functions and beauty. Quilting will continue to play a significant role in the life of man in the future.
Theory To stitch the panel of fabrics together, thread is used. Sewing thread is a twisted ply yarn, which is treated with some finishes to make its surface resistant to friction and stresses when it passes through needle hole and material. Different types of threads are used depending upon our garment design, life expectancy, quality, desired strength, fabric GSM, fabric construction, stitch and seam type, stitch density, machine speed, needle size and end use. Sewing threads can be classified on the basis of type of fibre to be used, thread construction and finishes applied to the surface of thread. Threads can be manufactured form natural or synthetic fibres.

I was now determined to learn how to sew properly and make clothing like the top designers do. And not until college was I able to pursue my childhood dream. I'm now able to attend sewing classes and create my own fashion designs. And now when I look at fashion magazines my outlook is a little different from that of my childhood days. I pay closer attention to the design of the outfit and learn more about the type of fabric that might have been used.
Embroidery is the art or handicraft of decorating fabric or other materials with needle and thread or yarn. It is also known as an ancient variety of decorative needlework in which designs and pictures are created by stitching strands of some material on to a layer of another material. It is common for embroidery to also incorporate other materials such as metal strips, beads, quills, pearls and sequins. The tools needed for embroidery vary, but the most common seen today are the thread, needles, embroidery hoop and fabric. The thread is the most important part of embroidery and the options of colors is just endless to choose from.
