Severe Air Pollution in China

After many years of ignoring the air pollution, smog ridden China has finally begun to

take this issue more seriously. They are the worst country in the world when it comes to air

pollution due to their huge population and large demand of manufactured goods (AFOP). This

however is no excuse for what they do to the environment. This is a very important issue because

of how much environmental damage can be prevented as well as setting an example of pollution

reduction across the world. They must take this issue very seriously because air quality has

gotten to the point where people are getting sick and dying there (The News Tribune, 2014). I

believe for this to be a reality China must: reduce air pollution, change their energy habits, begin

undoing the health problems that pollution has caused, and be more attentive to the environment.

If China is to ever get their air quality to safe level they must first begin reducing

emissions of carbon dioxide and other pollutants into the air. This proves to be a difficult issue as

China has a large and growing population that requires monstrous amounts of fossil fuel energy

to support it (China’s Environmental Issues). This vast amount of pollution is overwhelming and

must be stopped before it is too late. There are many ways to reduce air pollution, although it

will not be easy. They must cut back on the mass amounts of production they do because the

sheer amount of fossil fuels burned by factories is horrendous (China’s Environmental Issues).

This will be very difficult as many countries rely on China as producer of goods. Another option

is limiting cars or promoting public transportation. The thinking here is that a large population
