Set Design
The set design I am using is for the scene when the apple has sunk
into Gregors back and he is extreme pain and none of the family is
willing to help him.
I have decided to use a thrust stage as my set because I believe the
back of the stage would be a really good place to have Gregors cage so
it is visible for all the audience to see and I think the front of the
stage would be really easily split into three sections, Mr. Samsas,
Mrs. Samsas and Gretas so you can see the distance between the
characters.
At the back of the stage I would have the Gregors cage rise so the
audience can see the metamorphosis of gregor much more clearly, this
also means the audience can see past the family and into Gregors room
so that there view of Gregor is not restricted unless meant otherwise,
the cage would have no walls or bars but Gregor would believe in his
mind that his cage had bars and walls, this represents the rejection
of his family and he can not get close to them because they don’t want
him close to them. Also when the cage is raised it can show the fear
of the family towards Gregor and then when it is lowered it can show
the unimportance of Gregor in his families mind.
When the cage at the back of the stage rises I would use a profile
spot so all the audience focus upon is the cage. Mainly I would use
flood lamps so when the family are having discussions all the family
can be seen clearly. I would not use any color lights through out the
play because I think the play would look more creepy and exaggerated
if just normal lamps where used.
The orchestra platform was lined also with fabric from wall to wall and across the ceiling, and a heavy fabric draw curtain was made to close off the front of the stage.
He lost his best friend, who he spends a great deal of time living alongside. It is unjustifiable to lose a friend, especially for no reason or due to an uncontrollable disease while having to watch in absolute terror not being able to help, but only wish and prey. Subsequently, simultaneous to losing a friend he is struggling to progress on in life during school and extracurricular activities, “none of the boys had ever made overtures of friendship towards him” (Selvadurai 26). Imagine not having any friends in addition to feeling a sense of isolation, only being able to rely on

Although sometimes people can get wrapped up in events that they feel only concern themselves, they should always take a moment to think about how their actions could be affecting the people they love. Friends will always come and go, but family is forever. If a person wants to stay close to their family, they have to consider things from both theirs and the other person’s points of view. For love, people have to sacrifice things that they might not want to, but they have to love their families enough to help them before they help themselves.

His room is still a “regular human room.” In his room are lines of fabric samples, because he is a traveling salesman. Gregor had a picture hanging on his desk. It “showed a lady done up in a fur hat and a fur boa.” This picture, and the mention of him being a traveling salesman, show the extravagance of his family, while he is a common worker.
