An example of Roberts’s leadership in action that demonstrates his leadership talent is the way he empowers all of us everyday. Robert is constantly informing us with the tax regulations that are essential. Additionally, he makes us responsible for the tasks that he assigns us. Lastly, he demonstrates that he trusts us by expecting us to get the work done effectively and efficiently. He does not boss us around just because he has the title of a leader. Throughout the day, he is doing different tasks. Initially, his assigned tasks are to electronically submit the tax returns and help us with any questions that we may have. However, he does not limit himself to these simple tasks. He also prepares returns and thoroughly guides us on preparing tax returns. This type of leadership is known as servant leadership. A servant leadership is focuses on other’s needs instead of their own (Hanen 2016). Recent studies prove that servant leadership is adequate but many still take other forms of leadership (Heskett). Jim Heskett, author of article “Why isn’t Servant Leadership more Prevalent”, states that individuals avoid servant leadership because they are only focused on short term results. Consequently, Robert maintains servant leadership because he focuses on maintaining the relationships that he creates. Furthermore, Robert is a directive leader because he is capable of implementing regulations. He is a supportive leader because he creates a friendly environment so we can feel comfortable while we volunteer. He is an achievement-oriented leader because he always sets a time limit on our work. As a result, this challenges us to stay within the time frame that he requires. Lastly, Robert is a participative leader because he is constantly empowering us. For example, he is open to hearing our suggestions and implementing them into our daily routines. The real person who has made an impact on not only myself, but a great deal of people in the community over quite a few years is Ms. Barbara Neiman of Brockton Avenue Elementary School. Working in different fields over the course of her life, Ms. Neiman has had to convert to various styles of leadership. Since she has had to alter the ways in which she leads, I selected pieces from three different practices that I believe best fit her: The Path-Goal Theory, Servant Leadership, and a little bit from the Behavioral Approach.
Leaders are actively on targeting goals and objectives for the people who work for them. In management, many goals are established by staffs and carried out by the managers themselves. Leaders will act to develop in more creative ways solve the problems; keep on going and with new missions. Managers will continue to do whatever is necessary work to accomplish the tasks and usually to get the job done without taking on too much risk or moving forward. The leader's instinct is to take risks instead and to challenge that task holding back by people and think of new ideas within an organization. Leaders more concerned on relationship between staffs, they promote the good staff, help them to develop, and move forward. Managers assign people, focus on personnel issues; and focus on how the job task get done, how they solve it, and how are they finished. (Rashid A., A., 2007).
Dale breaks individuals down to four styles of leadership: catalyst, commander, encourager, and hermit. He lists these four from best to worse. Nevertheless, the each can have their strengths. The catalyst is effective and positive. The commander is efficient and clear. The encourager is emphatic and relational. While the hermit erodes, he can be valuable for buying time. These leaders can be blended with being an entrepreneur (dreamers, organizers, risk takers, builders) and or harmonizer (friendly, agreeable, peaceful).
