Under the pen name Lemony Snicket, Handler wrote the Series of Unfortunate events. This is a twelve book series of misfortune, humor and really any and every emotion on can have. The series is based around a family of three wealthy children who loose the parents and fortune in a mysterious fire. Violet who is the oldest sister and has a mind for inventions that time and time again get the siblings out of trouble, the there’s Clause the middle brother whose knowledge precedes that of his older sister and read every book in his family’s extensive library. 1. In the book, the father tries to help the son in the beginning but then throughout the book he stops trying to help and listens to the mother. If I had been in this same situation, I would have helped get the child away from his mother because nobody should have to live like that. The father was tired of having to watch his son get abused so eventually he just left and didn’t do anything. David thought that his father would help him but he did not.
In Unbroken, Laura Hillenbrand tells the life story of Louie Zamperini, a former Olympian, soldier, and survivor of World War ll. The author opens the book by informing the reader of how World War ll was globally developing through the use of a flashback. Then, she begins to introduce the main character, Louie Zamperini, as a child and leads up to show his motivation and survival of World War ll. Hillenbrand uses these flashbacks to provide background information and show the characters motivation.
The non-fiction book Hiroshima by John Hersey is an engaging text with a powerful message in it. The book is a biographical text about lives of six people Miss Sasaki, Dr. Fujii, Mrs. Nakamura, Father Kleinsorge, Dr. Sasaki and Rev. Tanimoto in Hiroshima, Japan and how their lives completely changed at 8:15 on the 6th of August 1945 by the dropping of the first atomic bomb. The author, John Hersey, through his use of descriptive language the in book Hiroshima exposes the many horrors of a nuclear attack.
Silver Linings Playbooks tells the story of Pat Solitano Jr. (played by Bradley Cooper), a high school teacher diagnosed with bipolar disorder who is trying to get his life back together. The movie opens as Pat is released from a psychiatric hospital after eight months of treatment and moves back in with his parents. He is determined to get back together with his wife, Nikki, despite all the signs that say she does not want to be with him - such as the restraining order she filed against him. Pat meets recently widowed Tiffany Maxwell (played by Jennifer Lawrence), who is suffering from depression and overcoming a sex addiction that ensued from the death of her husband. Tiffany offers to help deliver Pat’s letters to Nikki if he enters a dance competition with her. As the movie goes on, Pat and Tiffany’s relationship progresses and they learn to cope with their issues.
Margaret Peterson sets her cliffhanger mystery book, Haddix: The Missing Found, in a modest neighborhood in Ohio. This book is in first person point of view, being told by the main character, Jonah Skidmore. The tone is fearful because Jonah voices his fears to his friend, Chip, multiples times throughout the story and usually has a fearful attitude when trying to overcome obstacles. Haddix: The Missing Found, is about a group of famous children from history who were stolen by futuristic time travelers and sent back to the 21st century as babies. These babies were soon adopted by random families around the world, and had a normal life. However, when they got to be around 13 years old, they start to get threatening letters sent to them telling them that they are, “one of the missing” (Peterson 20). These kids proceed to venture on a journey to find the person who is sending these creepy letters, and go through many obstacle along the way. Overall, I thought that Haddix: The Missing Found was a great read because it was very mysterious and kept me guessing the whole time I was reading, and I found that the characters were really relatable.
Political philosopher and social theorist Thomas Sowell has once said, “It takes considerable knowledge just to realize the extent of your own ignorance.” It is inevitable to meet an ignorant person around each corner that one turns. It is up to the victim to either let the ignorant person corrupt him or to let the victim become smarter. One of America’s greatest activists, Martin Luther King, believed that “Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.” With this in mind, “The ignorance of one voter in a democracy impairs the security of all” (Kennedy).
This story take place in the town of Castle Rock, Oregon. Most of the book takes place around the main characters neighborhood and the store in which the camera was bought. In the story it is the month of September. The story stars on September 15, of 1997. The way the time period is associated with the main character is that September 15th is his birthday. So the story begins in the setting of a 15 year old boys birthday party. The other main setting that changes the most is the setting of the pictures that the main character takes. This setting is important to the story because it is always changing, and the story revolves around those changes.
The book “This Boy’s Life” by Tobias Wolff is a memoir written about the author’s childhood memories and experiences. The author shows many different characters within the book. Many of them are just minor character that does not affect the author much in his life choices and thoughts throughout his growth. But there are some that acts as the protagonist and some the antagonist. One of them is Dwight, the protagonist’s or Jack’s stepfather. This character seems to be one of the characters that inhibit Jack’s choices and decisions. This character plays a huge role in Jack’s life as it leaves a huge scar in his memory. The author here spends the majority of time in this character in the memoir to show the readers the relationship between Jack and Dwight.
Harrison Bergeron is a fictional story written by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr, explains what a society would look like if it was at its worst-case scenario. Every citizen weighs the same, looks the same, and even performs the same as everybody else. In the story, two characters, George and Hazel, are sitting the living room watching tv, when suddenly a breaking news come on the screen. A rebel within the society threatens to take over the city and rid of the pain. The rebel gets shot and killed, leaving the society as it was before. With everybody weighing the same, looking the same, and being the same height, this dystopian world would a terrible place to live in.

Mrs. Marian Forrester strikes readers as an appealing character with the way she shifts as a person from the start of the novel, A Lost Lady, to the end of it. She signifies just more than a women that is married to an old man who has worked in the train business. She innovated a new type of women that has transitioned from the old world to new world. She is sought out to be a caring, vibrant, graceful, and kind young lady but then shifts into a gold-digging, adulterous, deceitful lady from the way she is interpreted throughout the book through the eyes of Niel Herbert. The way that the reader is able to construe the Willa Cather on how Mr. and Mrs. Forrester fell in love is a concept that leads the reader to believe that it is merely psychological based. As Mrs. Forrester goes through her experiences such as the death of her husband, the affairs that she took part in with Frank Ellinger, and so on, the reader witnesses a shift in her mentally and internally. Mrs. Forrester becomes a much more complicated women to the extent in which she struggles to find who really is and that is a women that wants to find love and be fructuous in wealth. A women of a multitude of blemishes, as a leading character it can be argued that Mrs. Forrester signifies a lady that is ultimately lost in her path of personal transitioning. She becomes lost because she cannot withstand herself unless she is treated well by a wealthy male in which causes her to act unalike the person she truly is.

Lemony Snicket does an amazing job putting lessons into stories that are completely disastrous. It is quite phenomenal how he puts the story into a way that makes you so anxious to read, even if you don’t enjoy reading. Overall, this is in my top five favorite books ever read. The rising action, climax, and falling action show how the most amazing moments in your life can become the opposite in only a month. Most authors tend to write their books in an enthusiastic fashion. Daniel Handler, on the other hand, has a gloomy writing form, showing the not-so-nice things that can occur to people. For example, the three Baudelaire orphans in A Series of Unfortunate Events. Siblings who just lose their parents in a fire that engulfed their house in flames and have to deal with the nuisance known as Count Olaf, a villain after their enormous inheritance. Handler wrote the thirteen books in the series under the pseudonym Lemony Snicket.
