Serial Killers A few times each year, our ears perk up when the news is turned on. On occasions there will be news about a murder of a young child or all the way to an old being. Murder is seen as a disgusting happening. Murder is seen as a disgusting hobby. Murder is pure disgust. Eyes fill with hatred when the picture of the serial killer is viewed. They are not human beings, they lack emotion and their eyes are filled with the desire to kill. With quick judgment, people don’t see what’s in the inside. All they see is an emotionless, cold blooded killer. What makes them do what they do? In no way is murder acceptable but there’s always a reason for it and the typical person fails to see what’s through the fog standing between him or herself and the killer. Humans are all born the same, and are shaped to be what they become. There’s always a past that is forgotten but in many cases it isn’t. Serial killers are in the wrong for taking lives from innocent people. Their actions are certainly not justified but they are misunderstood as people do not know what triggers their killing spree. Everybody’s childhood is an important time in their lives. It’s when knowledge is absorbed like a sponge and our character or personality is formed. Every serial killer has a childhood too. Three studies were taken to determine what the cause was and the first examined the effect that sexual abuse had on children. This study compared seventy five children who were never abused and sixty eight who were. The children who were previously abused showed more poor behavior then those who weren’t. It is very common to see a serial killer with depression, low self- esteem and problematic behavior and having prior abuse contributes to behavioral issues. Gacy raped, sodomized,tortured and strangled thirty three men over ten years. Referencing his past by calling his victims what his father called him proves that his childhood left an emotional scar and is a prevalent reason as to why he’s committing these crimes. As of 2012, there were 4.7 deaths per 100,000 people in the U.S. Pennsylvania has 5.7 deaths per 100,000. By no means is murder meant to be taken lightly, but there needs to be something understood about the person. There’s no need for forgiveness but realize that this person has had a traumatic past. Certainly, it isn’t right to gruesomely take a life but they know it. They know they are in the wrong and love knowing that it’s wrong. They love doing what they do. They love to kill.
