Introduction: The definition of how a serial killer is defined is interesting, but I thought the next sentence with the fact about how many serial killers there are would be a better hook. I would suggest moving the definition somewhere else in your introduction. The topic is introduced well, informing the reader how common serial killers are and that underlying issues cause them to kill, but a stronger connection of relevance could be made. Put in a statistic about how many victims were killed and families affected during the past 60 years. The introduction presents both a thesis and rationale, but could be made more explicit. It is very informative, but your argument gets lost in all the facts. It is hard to follow and needs to be made more explicit. You need to incorporate more commentary and analysis throughout the paper, right now it sounds more like a research paper than an argumentative one. For the background information on the different types of mental disorders, I would choose two, maybe three to describe, rather than four or five. It is a lot of information thrown at the reader and is choppy. In addition, try to embed your quotes/paraphrasing better. You tend to jump right into the information without giving some background. Generic information about mental diseases or the definition can be paraphrased, just use quotations for direct quotes from a professional in a field. As for triangulation of data, you have a good amount of qualitative and quantitative data, but hardly any testimonial data. To start your conclusion, incorporate a shocking fact or one of your examples that reflects your main point. This will help bring some closure to your essay with something the audience recognizes. In the last sentence, you mention that knowing these causes could lead psychologists and behavioral analysts to be able to spot a serial killer. I would leave out this idea because you hardly talk about it throughout your essay. If this is your main argument, make it more prevalent throughout your paper and expand it more in the conclusion. What reform or big idea are you trying to accomplish with this paper? If there is a bigger picture, reiterate it in the conclusion. Make the bigger picture connect to the reader, leaving them with something to think about, causing it to have a lasting
