The senior year of high school can be the most stressful, yet most important year in a student’s life. A few contributing factors to the stress of the senior year have to do with major life decisions. Choosing a career that a person can enjoy for their entire life is a huge responsibility. Choosing the correct college and major can affect the success of an individual’s career path. Another huge stress is figuring out a way to pay for college. Studies show that the average college graduate has approximately $37,000 in student loans (“US Student Loan Debt”). It is also overwhelming to keep grades up and get an acceptable score on the ACT to qualify for scholarships and admittance to colleges. Ohio University and Bowling Green State University are both excellent college choices; however, Bowling Green State University is a better choice for me mainly due to the location, and it offers an excellent program for my career path. …show more content…
College comes with many expenses, and it is important to get into as little debt as possible so it doesn’t become a problem in the future. For Ohio residents, the annual tuition and fees of Bowling Green State University is $10,606 (“BGSU”). The annual cost of room and board is about $8,690, and an estimated $4,610 for other expenses (“BGSU”). At Ohio University, the yearly tuition and fees costs $11,744, with an annual room and board cost of $11,176, and approximately $3,736 for additional expenses (“Ohio University Tuition, Cost”). The total cost of Bowling Green State University is slightly less than Ohio University, but accumulated over four years adds up to around $10,000. This is one reason I prefer BGSU over

Many argue that Brutus was a patriot, and many argue that he was a betrayer. People argue that he was a betrayer because he betrayed Caesar’s trust and gave a speech against him. However, when you think of Caesar’s personality, arrogant and slightly reckless, he could’ve made bad decisions and caused Rome a great deal of trouble. Brutus was a patriot to Rome since he did what was best for the country and even took his own life instead of running away. He put his own feelings aside to do what was right.
The central idea of “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” by Flannery O'Connor deals with the struggle to change a person in a positive way through religion. A person can be easily changed if grace, properly experienced, changes one's personal qualities (O'Connor qtd. in Hendricks). Attempting to change a person through religion becomes difficult when that individual demands to witness a miracle in order to believe: “if the Misfit had been able to see the miracle of Lazarus for himself, he would have believed that Jesus was the son of God, and he would have been able to live a conventional Christian life” (Hendricks).
For the past decade, The United States has stressed the importance of college education, to those seeking employment, and better careers. For most people, college is the logical next step in education, as it provides a working knowledge of a desired field and opens the door to many opportunities, but college has become increasingly more expensive as time goes on. Many people feel that college is no longer an option financially. Even with financial aid and scholarships, the cost of a college education can still be very taxing. This is due to massive price increase across the boards, but the main issue on most people’s minds is the debt that will be acquired from higher education.
As the high school chapter is coming to a close, many students have to make a decision that will affect the rest of their lives. Hopefully, for many that decision is to enroll in a college and attain a higher education. However, as tuition costs rise, students have to take a second look at their options for a better future. A community college is that second look for many because it is the less expensive option. From 2007-2009, enrollment for community colleges has increased by 24 percent (“College costs and the CPI”). Students aren’t choosing a college for educational purposes because they are overwhelmed by financial issues. They are attending community colleges so they will be able to graduate with a lower debt. Every year there are thousands of students planning and tracking their goals. Seniors in high school are faced with the tough challenge, while the Juniors are left to worry another year. Finally, the point comes a student’s life where they must make one of the most important decisions in their educational lifetime. That choice is, which college to attend, and it is a very scrutinous process. Two of such colleges are the University of Iowa and St. Ambrose University, and although similarities like majors and minors are evident, there are many other differences including student life.
As a student at Northvale Public School, I have grown up with my older siblings being inducted into an organization called the National Junior Honor Society. I had seen all the hard work and dedication they put into their school work and activities just to get into this society, making me want to be just like them. Then a few weeks ago, I found a note on my desk in homeroom telling me that I had been nominated to be apart of this society. Through citizenship and character, leadership, and service, I intend on being inducted into the society I have heard so much about. Though it will take a lot of effort this school year, being a part of this society is a dream of mine that I will make sure to come true.
It is a norm and expectation in society today for students to pursue higher education after graduating from high school. College tuition is on the rise, and a lot of students have difficulty paying for their tuitions. To pay for their tuitions, most students have to take out loans and at the end of four years, those students end up in debt. Student loan debts are at an all time high with so many people graduating from college, and having difficulties finding jobs in their career fields, so they have difficulties paying off their student loans and, they also don’t have a full understanding of the term of the loans and their options if they are unable to repay.
When a student gets out of college the game plan is supposed to be, get a job in the field that you went to school for and make money so you can start your life. That particular situation is rare considering not all students get a job fresh out of college. For the students that don’t, they have to go back home and settle for a regular job and start paying off their giant student loans and put their life on hold. Even with having the job they wanted the student loans come right around the corner. After college is when the student’s life is supposed to start and the part where you get a car payment, pay rent, utilities, but none of that is possible when you add the enormous amount of money that the student will be in debt by. With the amount the students have to pay fresh out of college, more students are sacrificing more time struggling to pay off the student loans then they spent in school. Student loans are set-up in a way to be flawed and not always completely necessary to the student.
With tuition rising every year, students face the challenge paying the debt achieving a college degree comes with. “Student debt surpassed credit-card debt in June 2010 for the first time in history, rising to about $830 billion — or nearly 6 percent of the nation 's annual economic output”(Clemmitt, Marcia). Not everyone has a ton of money just laying around. Being that financial trouble is the biggest problem for students, they begin to question whether college is worth it or not. In recent years, students have taken out loans to help with expenses. Most students choose to attend a community and junior college to help minimize the debt. Even after graduating with a degree, students still face the struggle of finding a job in this economic time. For higher class families this may not be a problem to them. But for the middle class and low income families, they face tougher times being that they don 't have the financial help like higher class families do. For the middle class and low income families, it makes more sense attending a community and junior college rather than a four year university.
One of the first thing a freshman hears or thinks about when going to college is the legendary “freshman fifteen.” The freshman fifteen is defined as a fifteen pound average weight gain that happens during a student’s first year in college. This problem has affected many freshmen because it causes them to fear that they are going to gain weight when they go off to college, but the undetected truth of this case is that a lot of freshmen lose or gain under fifteen pounds. To solve this ongoing problem, colleges and universities should incorporate more healthy food items on campus, provide student cooking, and create fitness and wellness housing.
Throughout the years, I have had to deal with many trials, and challenges. Growing up BI-racial had a big affect on both my parents’ relationship, my relationship with my parents (which later on lead to their separation). There were cultural clashes within my household; my mother who was from Korea, and my father who was from Panama. I had learned to depend on myself, my friends, and most importantly, on God.
Absolutely. And so in you know fact in our senior year of the rising seniors the spring semester of their junior year we. In a lot of time with that classes they formally prepared to take over the team as they become the senior class and you know when I tell him I said a senior class has have to have very high standards because those standards now become the minimum for the team and if you can't because you can't live up to those standards. You almost have to make a decision to eject you know and say you know I cannot be a senior in this team and not have the highest standards because you accept the minimum standard for the rest of the team and so and that that means that the level of maturity. You know do I want to accept that and at the same time or just understand that you're going to have to maintain the standards and if you're not that person that can really do it then you just don't be the person that tries to get out in front of everything and that's a discussion that we have with all of them. Everybody's going to have skill sets and make sure that you know this is not the best person for the situation. If nobody does anything that somebody's going to fill the void. So get out there if that's your skill set. That's your strength get out there and lead. I look at it as deserving to lead it is not when you have a title. Absolutely not. Every student has heard the year 2016 since they were in elementary school.Howveras the years progressed, the idea of college promptly started to become a reality. As parents stress out about what their child will be doing after high school, the pressure is on the students to make decisions that will benefit their future. Determining whether or not to continue an education in college for the next four or more years is a major decision in a high school student’s life. Without being enlightened on the potential effects of this decision, the student could impair opportunity for the future. The transition from high school to college is one of the most impactful experiences to take place in an individual’s life. From high school, a place of rules and regulations, to college, a place of independence and self-awareness, there is a noticeable difference in the atmosphere. In other words, college sets a tone of liberation for the student, not to say that there are no more rules or regulations anymore. A student’s success in college is determined by how much he or she puts into the experience as a whole. This type of success involves a number of skills such as time-management, setting goals, and prioritizing, to name a few. Along with these observations, the transition from high school to college is seen as a transition from childhood to adulthood, literally. As an adult, the real world setting starts to make it’s way into the college atmosphere, where the student is on his or her own and is responsible for his or her own actions. This is, by far, the most beneficial aspect of transitioning from high school to college, the real world experience.
Going into college everyone expects us to know what we want to do with the rest of our life. That is a huge decision to make after living only 18 years. As teenagers we can’t decide what we want to where the next day, how are we supposed to choose what we will do for the rest of our lives? With the average cost of college ranging between $8,500 for a four-year public college and $29,000 for a four-year private college per year. (College Board) Can college students afford to make the wrong decision? Shocking facts reveal that around 75 percent students will switch majors from the time they start college till their graduation day.( Freedman) This just adds more money on to the two words no one wants to hear, “Student loans.” When we finally get to graduation the excitement is short-lived with the way the economy is going now. A college degree may not be enough to land a job that will pay the bills and 6 months later we start to get the bills for that degree.
