Senior Project: Conclusion

My experience working as an intern at The Cambridge Professional Center, LLC was an extremely unique and rewarding one. The small business, located in Morristown, New Jersey, is a counseling center for children, adolescents, and families. My internship here allowed me to attain experience in both of my career interests: psychology and writing. At this time, having spent seventy-eight hours working here over the course of three weeks, I am able to reflect and analyze the situation as a whole. This entails assessing the meaning of the experience, summarizing what I have learned, questioning whether this might be a project with career implications for myself in the future, as well as judging whether or not I would recommend this project to another student. The experience of interning at The Cambridge Professional Center, LLC taught me many things about both myself and the real world. First, working on my own in a professional setting allowed me to become more confident in myself and my abilities. I had to be more independent, self-sufficient, and responsible than ever before and I am glad to say that I rose to the occasion. My time management skills were put to the test when I was left to complete a number of tasks on my own time. I struggled with this a little bit in the beginning, but by the end learned how to schedule myself appropriately. Another thing I learned was how to work with people who are very different from myself, whether this was personality or perspective wise. For example, I am extremely organized and punctual, while many of the employees at Cambridge are not. This often caused me stress, which I had to work through on my own. Over the course of my internship I encountered a few awkward situations, such as intervi... ... middle of paper ... ...is much more diverse and "city-like" than some other parts of New Jersey. My senior project experience at The Cambridge Professional Center, LLC had great meaning for me and I am so glad that I chose it. I have never had a job, so it was through this internship that I first attained real world experience in which I had to be self-sufficient and there was not a teacher or parent to hold my hand. This taught me a lot about myself, including my strengths and weaknesses, which will ultimately help me in becoming a better employee for the future. Spending time away from the classroom setting was not only a great change of routine, but truly eye-opening and prepared me to leave high school and go out into the real world. In conclusion, I feel that the idea of a senior project can be really meaningful and help students a great deal if they choose to make the most of it.
