Theory Critique: Self-Transcendence The theory of self-transcendence is related to well-being or healing, one of the identified foci of the discipline of nursing. This theory has been examined in research and used to guide nursing practice. This theory provides nurses a framework for inquiry and practice regarding the promotion of well-being in the midst of difficult life situations. Many nurses have used this theory so many times. I can say that most of the nurse applies the self –Transcendence theory on everyday practice without knowing that they are using it. But since nurse responsibility is to promote human well-being through nursing process and self-transcendence is one good of nursing process. This Theory has expand from mental health to well-being and now used in several areas including practice, education, and research. And it applicable to all kinds of patient .self-transcendence theory has been proven to solve all kinds patients problem regardless of their ages.

Self -transcendence concepts are well linked to nursing practice. The theory is abstract with concepts of vulnerability, self-transcendence, and well-being, numerous researchers have identified and studied empirical indicators. Most indicators have proven that anybody can easily access the theory with no difficulties. Anyone who is dealing with any life events have access to this theory. Self –transcendence theory concepts can be adjust any time to fit any particular situation.
Importance
Self-Transcendence theory is a Middle range theory .Middle range theories focus on specific nursing phenomena that reflects and emerge from nursing practice and focus on clinical process (Meleis, 1987). Self-transcendence is related to well-being or healing, one of the identified foci of the discipline of nursing.
