Over the course of time in Honors English IV, I wrote many different self reflection essays to reflect on the assignments and tests from different units. In total I wrote five of them and they helped me a lot throughout the semester to manage my time in a more effective manner. It also helped me pay attention more, not only in class, but to my friends and family. These self reflections really helped me to understand my strengths and weaknesses. I found out that one of my strengths is writing poems and this was my favorite assignment throughout the whole class. I also found out that I lack in time managing my work. Overall, these self reflection essays effectively helped me scoring better on assignments and tests throughout the semester. …show more content…
This topic was very interesting to me and I felt a did good job on explaining why teen abortion should be illegal. Although one of my weaknesses was time management, I put a lot of time and effort into writing my paper. This reflected on my grade in a very effective manner. Another strength I had during was writing the poem during the Canterbury Tales. I did a good job on making sure everything rhymed correctly and I had a really fun time writing the six stanzas. In addition, my weakness in this class was my time managing skills and not paying attention in class, and mostly laziness. Throughout the whole semester my biggest weakness was time management. In the beginning of the class I recieved an 88 on the Beowulf test. The reason why I did not do better is because of time management and not paying attention in class. I waited until the last minute to study for the test and this is why I recieved this score. When the class …show more content…
These self reflections have helped me understand that I need to pay attention to other and what is around me more often. A challenge I may face in life is becoming lost in an unfamiliar area. Once I visit a place and I can remember exactly how to get there, if I pay attention closely to my surroundings. This can prevent me from becoming lost the next time I visit this same place. Another challenge I could face in life would be studying for finals in college. Since my mom will not be with me next year in college she wilol not be telling me every five seconds to go study for my finals. I will have to manange my time in an effeevtive manner to study fotr my final exams in order to receieve the grade I want. With these two skills, I feel I can be successful in college. Since I want to have a career in the medical field, group work in this class helped me a lot to enjoy working with others. This will help me significantly in the future because I will be able to work well with my
As I finish this English course, there was one thing few things that stood out to me throughout the entire quarter, analysis. However, let me start with how I felt with the class overall. To me, this was a very engaging english class. I know in my last english class we had always worked in groups, this was no different, and I got to hear my peers perspectives and ideas that I either I agree with or didn’t and I thought that was interesting. It wasn’t just a typical class that dealt with readings and essays the entire time. Anyway, I want to start mentioning the things that stood out to me and how much it helped see what I could possibly try as I continue to pursue my college career.
Throughout this semester we have had to write many types of essays. Although this is a college English class there is still room for improvement. I made much improvement during the semester of the class. I was able to identify my weaknesses. I learned how to make improvements to the areas I was having problems in. Although each essay we did was different I was able to begin with one essay and throughout the semester turn it into two other essays. I was able to change my style of writing to fit the type of audience I was working with. I will continue to work on my writing and keep improving it.
During the course of the quarter, I feel that I have progressed somewhat. I've gained a lot of knowledge on rhetorical strategies and how to present arguments effectively. In the writings I have written, I feel that each writing works towards meeting the course goals. Logos, ethos, and pathos were strategies and ideas we were introduced to (if not already in the past) and were built upon throughout the quarter. The knowledge gained over the course of the quarter weren't only those three types of appeals. Rhetorical strategies like proposals helped reinforce the course and using rhetorical analysis in different situations have become easier throughout the quarter. I believe that I have made sufficient progress towards becoming a better writer this way.
The weaknesses that I have in this class is writing essays and doing presentations in front of the class. I feel I have moderately improved on my essay writing, but I just need to
I used to believe that I was one of the few unfortunate people that were not blessed with writing a well thought out paper in a brief amount of time. However, from class discussions and reading assignments such as “Shitty First Draft”, it became clear that writing does not come easy to anyone. Learning this piece of information has brought to my attention one major flaw of my writing process: believing that only proofreading my first draft will result in an excellent final draft. Instead of taking time to create a “shitty” first draft, I spent long hours trying to formulate my thoughts so that my first draft could be a great quality paper. Because of this, I would get frustrated when writing if my
Evidently, many writing assignments have helped me as a writer. All four of the essays we have written throughout the course has helped me become more of a critical thinker and put more thought into my writing. With writing essay, I stress much with how to introduce the essay and end the essay. All of my thoughts usually don’t come until the day before the essay is due. By doing different workshops in class like the introduction and thesis statement than creating the outline, helped me break the essay into parts and take it one step at a time.
Over the course of my life in the real world and the academic classroom, language has played a significant role. Attending Spanish classes throughout high school into my first semester at Quinnipiac University has enabled me to expand and develop my communication and reasoning skills in the Spanish language. With this genuine self-reflection, I will discuss my capabilities and experiences regarding language learning, in this Spanish language course.
Throughout this fall semester, I have learned many things. Before this class, I have never had to buckle down and plan out my writing so tediously. The many outlines, rough drafts, and final drafts have crafted me into a much better writer than I would have ever expected to become. While I have always considered English as one of my strong subjects, through this class I have learned that English has many more components than I originally thought. One of the most substantial of these components is a transitional sentence and through this class and the writing practice it has brought me, I have learned how to properly write them.
It was a task that took a significant amount of time and effort, but was truly an excellent learning experience. I found it intriguing how much the original essay can improve or modify over time; moreover, how different ideas flow through your brain each second. The revision of my essays taught me an enormous deal about writing and was genuinely pleasurable to do.
During this College Composition course, I came across numerous obstacles and educational involvements. Every factor of this course contributed to my overall learning experience. For starters, we often read out of our textbooks, “The Little Seagull Handbook” and “They Say I Say”. These books helped showcase proper writing techniques. In addition, we would have class discussions that everyone would participate in. This opened my eyes to different viewpoints that could influence my writing. I recall one class we had a debate over a topic and everyone had to choose a side to argue. Then when we wrote argument essays, even though they were on a different topic, it helped me view my topic in different ways. Lastly, the most helpful to my writing was peer review. We were told to read our paper out loud to our partner. Although personally I am quiet and dislike reading out loud, I found this very helpful. Instantly, my partner and I could find grammar mistakes that one may not pick up on while reading silently. Then we could also talk about other possible revisions for my paper. For every paper, we would have conferences with the professor. This was effective as well to have a professional giving corrections and ideas. When we would get back our graded rubrics on the assignments we completed, the instructor would leave comments to
During this course I learned a lot about myself as a writer. I learned that I can write tremendously well if I put my mind to it. When we received writing assignments from the professor, I would not be interested in doing it so I would procrastinate most of the time. But when I actually took my time to perfect an essay, I did well. I really did not know that I had that sort of knowledge in me. Pushing myself to greatness got me to where I am academically at the moment.
In this self-reflection essay I will be discussing all the concepts that I have learnt in the leadership lectures. This essay reflects the thoughtful visions drawn from the class discussions.
In final analysis, my writing has greatly improved during this semester, and having looked at the area's I most need to work on has given me an awareness of what my weaknesses are. Examining what I have learned and what I need to learn allows me to generate a strategy to fortify my writing skills. Critiquing my own work has given me insight into how my writing is progressing in this class and allowed me to see short comings I had missed previously. Self-evaluation is a helpful tool for anyone who wants to continue to learn what areas they can improve upon and how much progress they are making. I believe those who appraise their own work will have a better understanding of their strengths and weaknesses then those who do not evaluate themselves.
My first writing weakness was deciding what to write about. I had to read the essay topic over and over again to understand what it was asking for. I would worry that I wouldn’t understand the topic correctly. While writing the essay I was scared to get out of topic and write about something else I wasn’t supposed to write about. Another thing that would happen to me was that suddenly my mind would go blank and wouldn’t be able to think about what else I could write about. The essay I liked writing the most this semester was the second essay. I enjoyed making my own planet and how my alien had a quest with all the commercials I saw on the TV. The hardest essay I wrote this semester was the fourth and last essay. I got confused when I was writing the body paragraphs. This writing weakness impacted my life by showing me that I have trouble thinking about how I could write my essays. I think I should start reading books and maybe I could get a few ideas out of those books.
Dear Committee members, Taking English 22 this semester has been a big impact for me as a writer. When I first started I had no clue how to write a strong essay. Throughout the course I managed to learn different sets of skills in order to become a more confident and powerful writer. Honestly writing was never a passion of mine but I learned that writing can be very important because writing is used in everyday life.
