Through module four and five I have completed five self -assessments: people skills, anger management, team effectiveness, leadership skills, and management skills. These tests have taught me even more information about myself, and ways to improve my skills to be completely effective. I am working towards a business management degree so getting feedback and tips on topics and situations pertaining to my major, such as negotiations and conflicts, has been a huge gain for me that I use and keep with me throughout my academic and personal life. I have already noticed a change in the way I communicate due to the helpful feedback I had received and seeing positive results has made me even more motivated to work on my weakness. This weeks tests …show more content…
I have never had an anger management problem or tend to get really mad or angry at someone, so for me this quiz was a great help in finding ways to even reduce the minimal anger I have and how to handle it in the moment. I have scored a 69 on this assessment. On understanding what causes your anger I received a 12/15. On using problem solving skills I scored a 11/15. On using communication skills I received a 15/20. Releasing my anger section I placed a 14/20, and finally, I scored a 17/20 on controlling my anger when I experience it. The anger management assessment had taught me that I have a successful grip on my anger most of the time, and I have a good sense of what causes my anger and what to do when I start to feel signs of anger and trouble (How Good…Anger Management, n.d.). If I keep on working on my problem solving skills too, I will have less stress and anger when a situation comes up that does not work out. I can work on my communication skills too that will aid me in being able to express my emotions and talk about my issues that are bothering me. This will also help in reducing potential anger efficiently. This test taught me that I do have a productive way of releasing my anger, such as working out, but I should also keep a diary and jot things down that I notice make me angry to find out exactly the root of my anger and …show more content…
To me leadership is a very big quality of mine that I hold high, so anyway I can improve on this skill is very helpful. I scored an overall 67 on this assessment. On self-confidence I scored a 6/10. On positive attitude and outlook I scored a 7/10. On emotional intelligence I received a 9/10. On providing a compelling vision of the future I placed 7/10. On motivating people to deliver the vision I scored a 9/10. Being a good role model scored a 5/10. Managing performance effectively scored a 8/10. Finally, providing support and stimulation I scored a 16/20. This leadership assessment had taught me that I am heading in the right direction towards becoming a good leader (How Good…Leadership Skills, n.d.). I learned that I need to work on my-self confidence at times and always believe in my self a hundred percent. I should be aware of everything I have already achieved to improve my confidence too. I learned I have a positive attitude and outlook on situations, just like my mom, and try to approach situations realistically. Although at times I may be reserved and not talkative, I am a big motivator towards others and always encourage them to the best of their abilities. I learned that I can convince people to support a cause by my persuasive attitude and positive energy. My leadership skills quiz showed me that I have to work on my
Some leaders have natural capabilities but even they have to cultivate and develop their skills to achieve success. Individuals who do not have natural instincts for leadership communication can develop them if they have the energy and desire to do so. Developing these skills involve learning one’s self and capabilities. During this process a lot of information emerges and a lot of introspection is needed. While doing this self-evaluation areas such as image, dealing with the feelings of others, and various communication dynamics must be examined. This process can be time consuming and effective, it is worth the time and effort that is required in order to be successful. The process will reveal those areas that need improvement and areas where a person can excel. Once these areas are noted an improvement plan with goals can be created in order to work on becoming a successful and effective leader. It is a gradual process which if done seriously and efficiently could have outstanding results for the leader and his or her group.
My leadership qualities are pretty good. I can lead a team of people without much trouble. I have always been able to show leadership qualities. For example, my group in 5th grade was creating a presentation. I was voted the leader and was able
According to Grossman and Valiga’s Leadership Characteristics and Skills Assessment, the interpretation of scores for perception of what makes a good leader gave me the following results: good perception of a good leader and the scores for perception of your own ability to lead resulted in low perceived leadership ability for myself (Grossman and Valiga, 2013). With these results, I have concluded that I have low confidence in my leadership skills and ability. This would be an area of improvement needing work on my part. Part of being a good leader is being confident in one’s abilities and skills. Who would want to follow a leader who has n...
After completing the assessment exercise I have been able to carefully my personality. The exercise consisted of an evaluation of four areas: Locus of Control, Personality Type, Stress Reactions, and Learning Styles.
I think out the eight main leadership skills the most important skills I need to work on would be building credibility, communication, listening, improving creativity.
There are a few skills that will help improve your leadership management skills. Having a positive mind-set helps you to stay focused and determined to lead an organization more effectively. If you have a negative mind-set than these goals will not be accomplished because you won’t have focused or determined. Having the adaptability to change helps you to improve within the team or organization. Without expecting feedback from people or even taking their criticism then you won’t except change. Another skill is being a very good communicator. If you are able to listen to people and understand what they are trying to say, then you are a good communicator. These are all good leadership management skills that are
Being a leader you need to be in tune with your talents, strength’s, and weaknesses. Personally I feel I have many skills and talents. I am a great friend, I’m trustworthy and dependable. I can step up to the plate if needed and I can take control of certain situations without being told to. I love writing and being able to express my feelings or thoughts through writing and poetry. Along with my talents and skills I also have weaknesses. Knowing your weaknesses is twice as important as knowing your strengths in my opinion. One weakness of mine is being motivated. Once I start a task I will finish it and put 150% effort into it, but actually starting the task is my problem. Another weakness of mine is change. I have a problem with drastic change; I have a comfort with familiarity. With every leader there is going to be strengths and weaknesses and I think it’s very
Assessing positive leadership traits is very essential to acknowledging a good leader. The following positive leadership traits are, “Task competence, interpersonal competence, intuition, traits of character, biophysical traits, and personal traits” (Kreitner & Kinicki, 2013, p. 469).
The first assessment I completed was very eye opening for me as a leader. As expected, my score for the overall potential of my leadership was on the higher end of the scale because of my background and amount of experience I have in leadership positions. This assessment portrayed a very accurate depiction of my overall leadership potential because I have always placed emphasis on being very good at what I do while working hard to not follow a path that did not work the first time.
Leadership is a common and quite simple word but rather very difficult to define due to its complexity. Throughout my life I have encountered the chance to experience position of being a leader. I have experience leaderships by being a part of groups in high school and college for class presentations, being a youth leader in my church, and also being a part of a family. I have gain important qualities of being a good leader through these experiences. Some of valuable leadership’s traits that I obtained and strengthened are: how to be a team player, to be a better listener, to have more patience, to be not afraid of constructive criticism, to be outspoken, and to be a problem solver. Even though I have gained a lot, I still have more things
Anger Management Education, founded in 1994, provided education and psychotherapy to individuals to help make sense of and manage anger in their everyday lives (Anger Management 1). Anger remains a healthy emotion when expressed appropriately, although devastating effects may still exist. Anger lies at the root of many personal and social problems, such as child abuse, domestic and community violence, physical and verbal abuse. Anger also affects our physical health, by contributing to headaches, migraines, severe gastrointestinal symptoms, hypertension, and coronary artery disease. Many of us do not have the knowledge or abilities required to express our anger as a healthy emotion. As a result, some of us store and suppress our anger, while others may express it, but in negative and unhealthy ways.
This will not only benefit me in college, but in the long run as well. I gained skills from leadership. I know now how to help people in many ways. An example would be if someone is hurt, except for them to panic and yell if there in pain. I can use my leadership qualities by providing them help and calming them down. The leadership course was really helpful because it changed me as a person. I was not a leader in august. But, by attending the ropes course and doing all the leadership activities in your class I am one now. I can teach other people to be a leader as well. My opinion is leaders are not born but made. I was not born as a leader, but I was made to be one. I react differently in different situations. If I have a big test coming, I don’t over react. I study ever day before the test. I make sure my time is good. These are some qualities leader should have in my opinion. People that are on the top and helping other
In doing these exercises I learned that specific traits can lead to good leadership skills that can be used to become a successful leader. It has taught me that a good leader is one who has a direct relationship with the people who they are leading. The assessment quizzes gave me good insight on my leadership skills and skills I need to enhance to become an effective leader. The following is what I have learned doing the assessment quizzes in the book.
One of the assessments revealed that I am too task oriented and I tend to focus less on the concerns of people. I can enhance my leadership skills by gaining a balance with people and my tasks. Overall I have strong charismatic leader behaviors which accounts for building trust with my employees. Being trustworthy is a core value of being a successful leader and team player.
Through the self-assessment instruments utilized in this program, I have gained wealth of knowledge about my strengths, and weaknesses and how they affect my personal and professional life. By using different exercises, I recognized new strengths and weaknesses. At the same time, I identified ways to develop my strengths and overcome my weaknesses. The Kolb Learning Style Inventory (LSI) identified some of my strengths as the ability to get things done, initiating, and taking risks (Kolb, 2007). In the Strongest Self Feedback Exercise, some of the feedback listed my strengths as having excellent interpersonal and communication skills, being self-confident, a fast learner, determined, hardworking, and an awesome listener (Drucker, 2005).
