Sectors of Leisure and Recreation for Football and Swimming
Introduction
============
I have chosen football and swimming as the sports for this
investigation. I felt football would be appropriate as it is a major
global industry, which generates billions of pounds. In the UK it is a
sport, which is of huge importance to all sections of the media.
[IMAGE]Statistics show that swimming is the most popular physical
sport (after walking) in the UK according to the national statistics
online 2002. However unlike football swimming suffers from a lack of
financial support, mainly because it is largely an amateur sport and
has very little media coverage. In my investigation I will look at
some of the differences and similarities between the two sports, and
will use areas like the scale of the sport, organisation and funding,
the impact of the mass media and future trends in my chosen sport to
allow me to make this comparison
The scale of football and its economic importance
=================================================
There are many different sectors in the football industry these
include;
Participants - professional (full and part time) and amateurs
Administration and Regulators - the football association (the sports
governing bodies) with its regional and local organisations and the
football league.
Professional football clubs - the majority of these are limited
companies (although there are an number of plc) with full and part
time employees in different area's such as safety, marketing,
merchandising, security, catering, administration and finance.
Professional footballers association - (PFA) this association is based
in London and Manchester, this is know as the professional body which
represents all professional players in England and Wales
Volunteers - nowadays thousands of people give up their own time to
coach or support the numerous local league clubs (male and female)
thorough the UK.
Referees association - this association is located in Coventry and has
350 local societies and represents over 17,000 referees in the UK. The
association provides referees with advice guidance and support.
The following is a case study analysis on SPORTPLAY. The case involves a man by the name of Chis who is the Executive Director of the Provincial Arts Board (PAB). Until recently PAB was receiving government funding but when PAB failed to satisfy three of the five standards for government funding, PAB fell victim to government funding cutbacks. These cutbacks led Executive Director Chris to begin searching for non-traditional types of funding. Chris ultimately came up with the idea to connect with sports communities that he knew were always in the need of financial assistance. His initial thought was that if he could legalize gambling on sporting events that he could alleviate both parties’ financial issues. With some luck and after four months of hard work Chris was able to get roughly 33 associations that consisted of sport and art. Even several politicians jumped around this idea because saw the potential in replacing all government support for elite sports and the art community (INSERT CITATION).
Sport as a whole has changed in relation to the contemporary American economy by its constant growth and push for revenue. It has become a sort of “you scratch my back, I scratch yours.” type of relationship. I say this because of the amount of time and attention invested into making sport something that appeals to all people of American society rather than just the fans of the action itself. The constant negotiations for television deals, sponsorships, competition with other TV shows, and programs for time slots available within a network all play a large factor.
In the article “Organized sports do not benefit children” John Gerdy writes about youth sports programs no longer being about meeting the educational, developmental, and recreational needs of children but rather to satisfying the ego needs of adults. This topic has been widely argued over. Questions have been ask of parent who choose to have their kids win than to have fun. Gerdy in his writing will talk about De-organizing children’s sports and the adult domination of children sports as well as his opinion on the whole argument.
Sport is a significant aspect of society. Frey and Eitzein (1991, p.503-504) refer to sport as a ‘prominent social institution’ and a ‘microcosm of society’ stating that behaviours, relationships and group dynamics within sport mirror that within our society as a whole. Sport in the educational setting is widely accepted because it teaches young people valuable life lessons such as discipline, fairness, teamwork and respect (Frank 2003). The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (2003, p.2) identifies the importance of sport and physical education for young people, explaining that its ultimate aim is ‘to contribute to the preparation of the student for a life of autonomous wellbeing’. Delaney and Madigan (2009) further highlight the benefits of sport, stating that it provides individuals with a sense of belonging to a group and that it provides opportunities for camaraderie, social bonding and social integration. While sport has many positive benefits and is also recognised to contribute to social inclusion among young people, it can also result in social exclusion and marginalisation for many (Dagkas and Armour 2012). This essay will look at how sport in education works as a mechanism for social inclusion and exclusion.
Abstract: Society is affected every day by many different kinds of sports. These sports often govern society's way of life. People all over the nation turn their TVs to sporting events, such as golf, during the weekends. Scott Stossel states that "more than six million Americans enjoy watching golf on the weekends." Parents use sports as a teaching tool for their children. Kids learn teamwork and discipline from team sports programs and sports have also helped many students with their grades. Kids who want to compete in school sports are taught to keep their grades up or they won't be able to play, but the greedy coaches and schools often look around grades to keep their "star athletes" in the games. Adults have been affected by sports in their bank accounts. Tax increases for funding a new stadium, golf course and even school programs have hurt the middle class Americans. Sports have taken control of small communities and soon will take control of society
A directive is a final decision made by an official body which either has or has not a binding force.
Sports have been around for thousands of years. The history of sports in United States began back in the 1840s. United States is a very unique country when we look at its sports, just like every country has a different structure of sports so does US. This paper will be taking about the Sports Organizations and Governance, the sports industry, sports organizations, and Structure of sports in the United States. It will also cover the Sport in the United States vs. Other Western Democracies by taking a look at the State Political, historical context, team objectives, and sports organizations. It will also cover the uniqueness of American sport as well as cover the mass participation and give recommendations on how to increase participation and success.
Football is the most obvious sport whose commercial value has been tainted by the actions of its players. While the game still attracts multimillion-pound investment from brands due to the massive media spotlight it enjoys, many are questioning the wisdom of their associations in light of a seemingly never-ending stream of negative headlines.
Discussions aforementioned demonstrated that both sex consumption and sports consumption were highly male-gendered in the past. Recent researches (e.g. Firat, 1994; Fausto-Sterling; McGinnis et at, 2003) illustrate that it is progressively blurreed and difficult to draw boundaries between male and female in the consumer culture. Firat (1994) asserted that it is getting difficult to conclude on the behavioural notion on gender, being feminine or masculine (Firat, 1994). Study of Risman (1994) denotes that gender (masculinity or femininity) influence diminishes in modern social structure (McGinnis et at, 2003). Consequently, consumer culture on sex and sports consumptions is less gendered phenomenon in the modern era.
This report will focus primarily on the internal and external macroeconomic analysis coined with a critical analysis of Sports Directs business and corporate level strategy before recommendations are made. This will highlight how the organisation can sustain their competitive position in todays increasingly globalised, hypercometitive market (Hanssen-Bauer & Snow , 1996).
“Sports are for fun, but they also offer benefits and lessons that carry over into all aspects of life”. This well-known anonymous quotation conveys the message that sport is the game which has some rules and custom. It is not only for fun and entertainment, but there are also some benefits of playing sports and which gives some important lessons for life. Every kind of physical sports is healthy because it involves running, jumping, stretching, mind skills and much more. There are so many sports available in the world nowadays, but we can categorize them by the numbers of players, the three main categories are individual sport, dual sport and team sport.
Recreation and Leisure activities are in a high critical dimension of quality of life for everyone, including people with developmental disabilities. Sadly, many of those who are disabled are still limited to segregated recreation and leisure choices for any reason or another. Some people will confine themselves to opportunities which include trying a new variety of activities in different settings with different people; here some of the factors that can be affecting: Age, Gender, Sexual Orientation, Racial and Ethnic identity, and Socioeconomic status.
As a kid my dad always took me to a field to play soccer. He once told me that you could never be too good. He reasoned that even when you felt you have mastered a certain exercise there would always be more room to improve. From shooting to passing, there was only one right way to get better. That’s how I felt going into my sophomore year as I was yet to decide if I wanted to play high school or club. As athletes we put many hours into something we love doing, but has there ever been a point in which you thought it was time to give up? Like Martin Luther king Jr. Once said, “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” Although goals
