Journal Entry Two This journal entry will be about the observation of a Six Grade Science class. There are twenty-four students in this classroom with one teacher, Mr. Kessler. The energy and knowledge that this teacher portrayed during his lesson was exciting and engaging. He showed that an excitement for the subject you are teaching encourages the students to learn. His students were captivated by this excitement the moment they walked into the classroom. He was energetic and joyful and the kids showed these same feelings as they sat down to begin the warm up exercise for the day. Mr. Kessler at Salyard Middle School teaches six grade science all day. He has a great love for his subject and his job. You can see this in his methods of teaching. This journal entry is covering a lesson on Elements, Mass, and Density. Mr. Kessler began the lesson with a warm up exercise of three vocabulary words. One student would represent the protons; another student would represent the neutrons and a final student would represent the nucleus. These three students would be placed in the open area of the room and the nucleus would put his arms around the protons and neutrons. Mr. Kessler would then assign students to represent the electrons and with this method his class formed a sodium atom and a chlorine atom. He then proceeded to have the electron from sodium travel to the chlorine atom and attach itself to the valence. Then explained that they had just created table salt, the students loved the lesson and it was clear they understood what he was explaining.
