Safety is the one desire all parents have for when sending their children off to school. Whether it 's dropping them off at daycare or sending them off to college on their own. Being in a safe environment while at school should be a given right. But, are schools taking the right step to keep their students safe? As much as parents put their child’s safety first, schools should as well. Putting security systems in and school security officers are actions some schools are taking for higher security measures.
Parents and teachers need to be concerned of the lives in danger. “Since 2013, there have been at least 205 school shootings in America — an average of nearly one a week.” States every town research, a support fund for gun safety. This statistic could be your neighbor, children, or friends school down the street from home. Or, as a teacher this school could be the one you work in every day.

With headline news, constantly being a shooter or armed suspect targeting campuses, feeling safe at school shouldn’t be an option, it should be a priority. Being a future teacher, I strive to protect my students, even if it means having a weapon in the classroom. As well as being an assistant teacher daily, being prepared for certain situations is vital. But, there are no protocols in place in case of an emergency involving an armed attacker.
Looking back at Columbine High School, would a gun have stopped those teenagers? A gun could have easily stalled for police officials to arrive. Teachers and school official could have been armed and prevented deaths and injuries. A gun is an alternative for schools as an alternative of hiding in a corner in a classroom. New protocols need to be put in place to make schools a safer place. This would consist of having guns in every classroom and new safety plans. These safety plans would comprise of exit routes and several plans for different
