First, to forge a supportive community with the students and parents, I will reach out to my students’ parents and/or guardians to introduce myself and review my expectations for this school year. Similarly, I will encourage my students’ parents to share their expectations for their students and me. I will also involve my students’ parents in the learning process by providing them with some techniques they can employ to support their students at home. For example, I will ask the parents to check their child’s homework on a daily basis, and I will give them a list of online tools that they can use to assist their child in developing their academic skills. Describe your end of academic year goals for your students. What do you hope they will be able to achieve? How will you know if you are successful? How might you adjust your goals and strategies to meet the needs of learners below grade level or learners with other special academic needs?

More than anything else, at the end of the academic year, I want my students to be risk-takers that appreciate their own value. I want my students to have a growth mindset in which they recognize that failure is a part of life, but one instance of failure doesn’t determine their future endeavors. With such a mindset, my students will be more willing to take on academic challenges, which in turn will empower my students to enrich themselves and their current circumstance. Furthermore, one way of recognizing whether I was successful in helping my students achieve this goal is by conferencing with the students about their process throughout the school year. I will have the students discuss one skill that they initially struggled with but are now more confident with. Since my end of the year goal centers on having a growth mindset, I believe all students (including those below grade level or with special academic needs) will have a greater chance of meeting this goal. First, I will reassess my students to find the specific areas in which I need to target my instruction. Then, I create strategic plans to help my students meet the expected results. One specific strategy that I will incorporate is to create more small groups. Many students prefer a small-group setting to a whole class setting, and I want to make sure that I am considerate to the students’ specific learning preference. Once these plans are developed, I will meet with my assistant principal/ academic coach to discuss these plans and any next steps I will need to take to ensure that my students will make great strides. Last, but not least, I will have the students take responsibility for their own learning by having them set individualized goals and by assisting them with tracking their progress towards meeting these goals. All in all, to help my students make the appropriate academic gains, I need the whole school community (including the students and other adults) to be invested in the students’
