People all over the world suffer from this dreadful disease, but you may be wondering what it is, what causes it, and if there are treatments? All these questions and more with be answered, but first of all, what is schizophrenia? Schizophrenia is a mental disorder characterized by irrational thought processes. A person dealing with this debilitating illness may think that people are going to kill them, or kidnap them. Some Schizophrenics often have “voices” in their heads telling them what to do. In some cases this has caused people to take their lives or try to.

Schizophrenia is everywhere you look. Out of one hundred thousand people at least one hundred and fifty people have schizophrenia. Like any other disorder, schizophrenia can be broken down into different types. The three most common types of schizophrenia are: paranoid schizophrenia, disorganized schizophrenia, and negative schizophrenia.

Paranoid schizophrenia is characterized by the feeling of being singled out. Disorganized schizophrenia on the other hand is characterized by illogical thoughts but no delusions. Finally catatonic schizophrenia is when reality is misinterpreted (psychosis.)

Although schizophrenia is a mental illness there are still symptoms or stuff to look out for. Some of these symptoms include: change in work performance, disordered thinking, talking in nonsense, hallucinations and delusions, unusual perceptions, and change in social relationships. Schizophrenia is never described exactly the same when it is described by different people with the disorder. Although, what they do described is all quite similar in one way or another.

Remember any type of schizophrenia can happen to anyone at any given time. The age people are usually diagnosed is between the ages of fifteen through twenty five. Also you are more prone to get the disorder if anyone in your family has had any type of schizophrenia.
