Schizophrenia Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that requires antipsychotic medication, therapy, counseling, and for more severe cases it may require hospitalization. Schizophrenia is common in ages 18-35 years old. People confuse Schizophrenia with split-personality disorder which is not correct. People who suffer from Schizophrenia do not suffer from split personality disorder, but from not being able to distinguish reality to, what is not realistic. They may see things, people, animals, or objects that are not physically there. People that suffer from this disorder also hear voices talking to them. They respond to the voices and will have a conversation with themselves thinking they are really speaking to someone else. When in reality they are just hallucinating and are delusional. Schizophrenia is not curable but if treated properly they can live with this disorder. They can work, drive and may be able to live a normal life. If untreated or ignored, people will have a hard time functioning and living. Half of Schizophrenia patients use or have used illegal drugs and are alcoholics. It may take several months or even years to see that a person is indeed suffering from Schizophrenia and not anything else. Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that affects 2.5 million Americans per year. An estimated 40 percent of this population goes untreated per year. Nearly one third of people who have schizophrenia have attempted suicide. You can get treatment and or evaluated with a Psychiatrist, a hospital, a doctor’s office, rehabilitation center and a psychiatric facility. There is no blood work that determines if you have this disorder; they will do tests to determine if you indeed have this disorder. When she was done killing all her children, she called her husband and told him she just killed their children and he should come home. She called the police as well and told them exactly what she just did. When the police arrived, she opened the door, drenched in water and escorted the police to all the dead the bodies. She believed so much that she was doing the right thing as a mother to save her children from evil that she did not realize she was doing bad. She did not cry nor feel remorseful at the time being. Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder that should not be taken as a joke. If you know someone with the above symptoms, advise them to seek medical help. Let them know it would be confidential and it’s better if treated early.
