My Scarlet Letter project is composed of a mannequin dressed in a nice suit. Underneath the suit, I made a tattoo of the letter A on the mannequin's chest, and I also drew a tramp stamp. The letter A which symbolizes affliction is made up of nine Chinese characters that each have a symbolic meaning and the tramp stamp is the Chinese character for tempter. Constructing the project was rather time consuming, but it was not outside of my abilities or hobbies. Money, on the other hand, was a concern for me. Luckily, I was able to buy a used mannequin for twenty five dollars at a warehouse. Because I lacked experience with Chinese characters, I was wary of just drawing the characters without some practice, so I had to make several rough drafts on paper before drawing it on the mannequin..

When comparing my project to my proposal, you may notice a considerable difference. At first, I was planning on creating a cavity into the chest of the mannequin and placing a symbolic object in there, but several complications occurred. First, the warehouse only had mannequins made out of fiberglass instead of plastic which meant I would have to use a drill instead of a knife to make the cavity, and I was not confident in my abilities with a drill. Secondly, it would not have been fun for me. Yes, the idea of using a mannequin attracted me, but everything else was bland to me. In contrast, I've wanted a meaningful tattoo since I was little even though I'm not allowed to have one. Also, I love sketching which you have probably noticed from all the doodling I do in class. Thirdly, the idea of drilling a hole into a chest and making a box lends itself to a lot of tasks I, personally, find tedious. While it did take over five to six hours to draft Ch...
