I. Every year, over 100 million animals sit in U.S laboratories waiting to be burned, crippled, poisoned and abused (“11 Facts about Animal Testing” par.1).
a. Animals deserve the same security and wellbeing as humans and therefore should not be subjected to that kind of neglect and abuse.
b. Animals that are a part of some kind of new medication research rarely make it out alive. In fact, 92% of experimental drugs that are safe and effective in animals fail in human clinical trials because they are too dangerous or don’t work (“11 Facts about Animal Testing” par. 2), only substantiating the point that animals will not react to medications the same way that humans will.
c. Many animals are subjected to pain and suffering for no good reason. People think that just because they cannot speak for themselves, that it is ok to treat them as they please; they act as if animals are incapable of being able to feel pain. These people are wrong. Animals are living, breathing creatures that can feel just as humans can. All of this animal neglect and abuse needs to end, and animal rights need to be more strongly enforced.
d. Animal testing should be prohibited as it is morally wrong and animals deserve the same respect and wellbeing as humans.
II. Although the number of animals being tested on may have decreased drastically in the past, they are now higher than ever, with animals ranging from birds, cats, dogs, fish, frogs, guinea pigs, hamsters, mice, monkeys, rabbits, and rats losing their lives every day.

According to ProCon.org, in 2010, there were 1,134,693 reported animal testing subjects. However, this statistic fails to tell the whole story. Reported animal test subjects account for only between five and fifteen percent of the total amount of animals used in test labs (“Animal Testing”). However, according to In Defense of Animals, or IDA, the United States federal laws only mandate the number of “warm-blooded vertebrae animals used in science” to be counted and reported. Based on this federal law it is estimated that twenty-eight million animals are used annually in American test labs alone (“Frequently Asked Questions”). Millions of lives have been saved with the use of animal testing and many more will be saved with continued research. Animals are used to test the safety of products, advance scientific research, and develop models to study disease and to develop new medical treatments all for the sake of mankind. Animals should not be used for scientific research because animal testing is inhumane, other testing methods now exist, and animals are very different from human beings.

Every year about 100 million animals suffer through being poisoned, shocked, and burned for unsuccessful medical research. Some may believe that animal testing is a crucial part to medical research and should be used more frequently. Others believe the pain and suffering inflicted upon the animals is morally wrong and should not be done, no matter what benefits come from it.
It is estimated that each year, over 100 million animals-including mammals, birds, fish, and amphibians-are killed in U.S. laboratories for various testings, according to PETA.org. Americans should reconsider their usage of animal testing due to the fact that humans have an improper advantage to animals. Organizations such as PETA, do whatever possible to protect the rights animals have. Due to such organizations, there have been more reasons to find ways to no longer find the need to test on animals. Animal testing is unfair to animals due to the subjection of unconsenting pain to when used for medical experimentation.
In modern society, animal experimentation has triggered a controversy; consequently, vast amount of protests have been initiated by the animal rights community. Although these organizations have successfully broadcast their concerns toward animal experimentation, its application continues to survive. Sally Driscoll and Laura Finley inform that there remain fifty million to one-hundred million animals that experience testing or experimentation throughout the world on a yearly basis. But despite opposition, animal experimentation, the use of experiments on animals in order to observe the effects an unknown substance has on living creatures, serves multiple purposes. Those particular purposes are: research of the living body, the testing of products, and the advancement of medicine.

Since experiments are cruel and expensive, “the world’s most forward-thinking scientists have moved on to develop and use methods for studying diseases and testing products that replace animals and are actually relevant to human health” (“Alternatives to Animals”). Companies claim that this sort of cruelty will benefit the human population by testing the “safety” of the products, as they have been for hundreds of years, and although this may have been helpful in the past, scientists have discovered otherwise. “While funding for animal experimentation and the number of animals tested on continues to increase, the United States still ranks 49th in the world in life expectancy and second worst in infant mortality in the developed world” (“Animal Testing Is”). This evidence shows that while we still continue to support and spend money on animal testing, it is not working as well as we thought.
