The Oakland, California based Save Nubia Project was founded in February 2012 to give the public updated information on the pending dams in Sudan, and to provide knowledge about the historical significance of the ancient civilizations of Kush and Nubia. The objective of the Save Nubia Project (SNP) is to help raise national and international consciousness about the pending flooding of the central areas of the ancient Kushite and Nubian civilizations in the Sudan.
The ancient two ancient civilizations of Africa, Kush and Nubia are under risk of being flooded and complete destruction will begin in the next three years if the four new proposed dams Dal Dam, Kajbar Dam, Shereik Dam, and Upper Atbara Dam in northern and central Sudan are built.

There are many cultures throughout the world, which may be far apart and yet still have similarities. Two of those such cultures, the Basseri, that live in Iran, and the Nuer, whom live in Sudan, have their differences, but also have some similarities. Many of the differences and similarities come from their subsistence strategies and the social and political organization of their societies. With the regions of the world, both the Basseri and the Nuer live in, they’ve had to adapt to the environment they live in along with the limitations imposed by that environment.

Grains, vegetables, and fruit produced from the floods are what fed the families and also brought in wealth and other resources from trading them. In Egypt, the Nile River flooded between August and October. The flood deposited nutrient-rich mud that was called “black mud”. The soil was so damp and rich the Egyptians hardly needed to work it. They could drop the seed and lightly stomp their feet for the seed to sink down and begin to grow. The Mesopotamians had a much harder time controlling the water coming from the annual flood. We still have a very short time to get the people off safely before the crash. This drought is causing long dry period in regions were rain fall is usually frequent enough. From there this drought is turning to more like a famine because the area in drought is so huge and is causing much conflict for the survival of the people (2011). These areas include Somalia, southern Ethiopia, and northern Kenya.
