The goal of this assignment is to enhance my knowledge about graduate school. Upon graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology I plan to get a master degree and then eventually get a doctorates PH.D. Degree in Psychology. I plan to attend graduate school for numerous of reasons. The first reason why I want to attend graduate school is a personal reason. I went to college so that my whole family and especially my grandma would be proud of me. My grandma was recently sick and died 2 years ago and I feel like she would not want me to give up and to keep going so that I can be successful in life. So in other words I want to continue my education so that she would be proud of me as she watch over me from heaven. The next reason is personal …show more content…
I know that there is some pros and cons to going to graduate school. Some pros of attending a graduate school would be an advance in a career. Like I previously stated, a grad degree can open up a wider array of career opportunities especially in psychology, social work, and healthcare. The next pro is Career change. Most people are finding hat their current careers is unrewarding. A higher degree can help transition to another career with a higher pay. The last pro would be a Find teaching opportunities. Not everyone is suited to teaching, but for those who are, getting a PhD can lead to a tenured position at a university or college, with a nice salary, a teaching or research assistant to help with workload, consulting opportunities, and can lead to a nice pension upon retirement. On the other hand a con to graduate school would that some colleges are highly competitive. Some graduate programs always have fewer spots than undergraduate programs. There 's competition for seats and grant money especially in the field of psychology. Also, going to graduate school will added another 2-4 years to be in college which would add more debt in loans. Lastly, going to graduate school would requires the ability to set priorities. Successfully completing a grad degree requires a great deal of discipline and priority setting which can lead to the strain on family and personal relationships, not to mention stress on
During my first semester in college, when I was enrolled in Intro to Psychology (Psych 101) I established a new love for school and learning. I began so engrossed in every aspect of it that I never wanted class to end. It was from then on that I decided to pursue my B.A. in psychology. After completing three years, I realized that there is still so much knowledge to be obtained in this field. Therefore, I want to continue my education at the Queens College School of Psychology Graduate Program.
The decision to enroll in graduate school came after considerable time and soul searching. While contemplating the decision to return to school I thought about life, school and work. I realized that my experience in these areas have prepared me for the challenge and I am going to succeed.
In societies all around the world, young adults today - from all kinds of socioeconomic backgrounds - are feeling the pressure to pursue a post secondary education as much has they have in previous generations. This is often the influence of those individuals who have taught us everything that we know up to this point; parents, teachers, government figures, scholars, and even celebrities. It is at this time in our lives when we must begin to analyze certain elements of a post secondary education, like what is the purpose, who benefits from an individual’s education, and who should pay for it? The answers to these and other related questions will vary between societies, between nations, and between individuals. How we perceive the objectives
Three years ago my life drastically changed when my husband of 19 years decided he wanted a divorce. I had always been a wife and a mother and only worked part time through the majority of my marriage. Having married at 19, I never thought too much about going to college. I always thought I wanted to be a stay at home mom and never thought too much about what my life would be like once the children grew into adulthood. Now, at 41 years old, I realize how horrible a decision I made by not getting my college education sooner. Trying to go back to school while working full-time and raising two kids on my own is not fun. It’s a struggle to find that right balance of being a good student but also being a good mom. I want to make my kids proud
Every year, thousands and thousands of students graduate from high school ready to embark one of life’s greatest adventures. Many students feel as if high school was tough and an awkward time for them. Some will encounter times when bullies are rude and nasty to them. Others will not have to deal with any negativity and have a great experience, but will not want to go back. After high school life goes on, many students choose different paths other than to continue their education but most of the students that graduate from high school are given the opportunity to attend colleges and universities all around the nation and obtain an education. Although not all students will get to fulfill this opportunity due to different circumstances, such as the expense or some of them may already have a family to take care of and have to go straight to work after graduation. For those students that do have the opportunity and are able to take it, it’s recommended they do. Once a higher education level is achieved, no one can take it away from them. It makes the chances of getting a job easier and also get a higher pay. An education should never be taken for granted because not everyone gets to have one, setting a goal and staying focused on
Currently I am studying for my psychology degree and planning on finishing with my bachelors’ degree in 2014, I have faced few challenges with my plans so far because I feel as though I have prepared myself well for the future. I am a in the psychology club and I participate in psychology experiments at school. I want to utilize all that I can while I am in school to become the best at what I do. Where I work I call alumni of my college and ask them for donations, before I ask them I have to gain their trust and that is also the basis for any counselor patient relationship.
Have you ever wondered if you will like high school? There are goods and bads about going to high school.I will name the relationships,schoolwork/homework,and clubs.
With that being said, when it comes to college and your post- graduate career, you get what you give. College degrees better prepare individuals for higher level jobs. An individual cannot just become a surgeon without performing the required prerequisites, right? Correct. It is quite simple. Any higher paid job is practically unachievable without a college degree. This can be seen in Source F, as it states, “Adults who graduated from a 4-year college believe that, on average, they are earning $20,000 more a year simply because of that degree.” Almost every job in our day and age requires more than just a base level education (high school). If one yearns for a career of which brings money rolling in, obtaining a higher-level degree is the way to
I expect that graduate work at the University of Somewhere will be demanding, challenging, and exciting, and I look forward to attending a program of this sort. During my time in graduate school I expect to receive the opportunity to learn, grow, and evolve as a person and a psychologist.
The graduate program I picked was at Montclair State University. The degree that I would be pursuing is Masters in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in Child/Adolescent Psychology ("Admissions - Montclair State University", 2017). I will further my education and eventually get my PhD in Child Psychology. In order to get my PhD, I first have to finish my bachelor’s and master’s programs. There are 36 credits at Montclair University’s Graduate Program in Clinical Psychology with a Concentration in Child/Adolescent Psychology. The class that I would have to take would be Multicultural Psychology, Research Methods, Developmental Psychology, Developmental
The graduate school preparation workshop, provided information on what graduate school is and how to prepare for it. The workshop was directed by Wanda Crannell an Oregon State University advisor, instructor and program coordinator. Wanda Crannell has been an advisor for the past 24 years and bioresearches. The primary goal of this workshop, was to analyze the pros and cons of graduate school, if one is a good candidate, and how one can prepare to stand out from the rest when applying to graduate school in whatever field of study within the STEM field. The worship consisted of Nicole Hams a biochemist and biophysicists, Smit Vasquez Caballero an economist, Melinda Guzman specialized in botanic and plan pathology, and Johan S. Bonilla a physicist.
In terms of Cutty’s “job” of rounding up students who do not attend school to take into school for one day, speaks to a larger issue. In order for the Middle School to receive their minimum attendance numbers, in order to receive additional funding, each student who does not attend school is required to attend school one day in January and one day in February. The children seem well educated in this system, and probably see the requirement enforced by the school to only attend two days of school, as just another thing which shows that the system and the adults within it care little about them and their education. I think the truant students probably feel as if no one truly cares or believes that they are capable of having any type of future other than one of crime and violence. How are the students supposed to feel hopeful for the future, when they are constantly bombarded with the message that people see no hope for them.
A graduate has a better chance at getting what ever they want and employers are more than willing to even hire students part time while they attend college. They are even willing to pick up the bill for college (Schwartz). When you do not finish college and go right for the experience, you are placing a cap to how far you can go. The workers skills are not as well defined as the graduates. With that degree, you have the opportunity for career advancement and you are paving the way for career advancement through specific training (Keefe).
What are the advantages to studying an undergraduate degree and how do you think the successful completion of your degree will help you in your life?
I plan on going to Graduate school after I graduate from Lake Superior State University with my Bachelors of Science in Psychology. In Graduate school I plan
