Same Sex Rights Essay

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, associated by the United Nations, is a complete list of 30 legal standards and moral principles granted to all people across the entire world. Unfortunately, illegal violations of these rights are quite frequent, even in more developed countries such as Great Britain and the United States of America. One might ask, to what extent is the human right of marriage and family violated regarding same-sex relationships in the United States? Inappropriately, this right is violated in our very own backyards, concerning the issue of the allowance and discrimination against same-sex relationships. Although modernized and one of the top countries in the world, the United States shows prejudice and discernment against homosexuals and “untraditional” relationships. The human right of marriage and family has therefore been disrupted tremendously regarding same-sex relationships in the United States through the unfair acts of discrimination, the banning of homogeneous marriage, and the violation to the Constitutional right of equality. Throughout history, many measures have been taken to improve this issue, but this ongoing war has still not been resolved.
The history towards the complete equality of same-sex, or gay rights shows slow but sure improvement, although not quite yet concluded. In early colonial times, perception and chastisement against same-sex relationships was unfairly perfidious, many times leading to punishment by life imprisonment or even death. Colonists in early America placed a prominence on traditional family life and proliferation, seeing homosexual acts as useless and selfish doings of pleasure and unkindness. The movement towards homosexual rights has received huge advancements in today’s modern, liberalized society, including the banning of discrimination against gays in numerous states. Homosexuals are now able to take part in federal, state, and local government positions, serve in the military, and are not allowed to be discriminated against in any way; hopefully one day in the near future overturning the laws against same-sex marriage in over 30 states. The human right of marriage and family is obviously inappropriately being violated through the issue of same-sex relationships in the United States, but slowly cultivating with a nationwide attempt with increasing support and determination towards freedom and equality for all.
