Why is it fair for people to get married to the opposite sex anywhere they please, but a couple of the same sex cannot get married in the majority of states? Why can't they have the right to express their love through marriage? They are just like anyone of us. HUMAN. According to the Definition.uslegal web page, same-sex marriage is a marriage of a ceremonial union of two people of the same sex; a marriage or marriage-like relationship between two men or two women (1). My reasons for choosing this topic is because after so many years of trying to fight for their rights to get married, it is now legalized. However, same-sex couples still aren't completely free. Homosexuals go through so many things throughout their lives. Learning how they might cope with their pain or the discrimination after a long period of time is something I would hope to learn during my research. My purpose for selecting this topic is because at one point in time homosexuals didn't have the right nor freedom to get married legally. They fought and fought before a law was passed in New Jersey around 2013, stating that same sex now has the right to legally get married. Another reason why I chose this topic is because homosexuals aren't free to do things that married couples can do. According to the article written by Rachel Sauer, Debbra and Meg, a couple that considers themselves to be married are "denied all of marriages legal advantages, including joint poverty ownership and next-to-kin rights for hospital visits" (1). This must be difficult to deal with, knowing all you want to do is have the same rights as heterosexual marriage couples do, but you can't because the law does not allow it. Homosexuals have endured pain in multiple ways from people with high authority to no authority at all. For no legit reasons, not only are they victims of discrimination they are also victims of not being able to freely express themselves in ways that any straight person can. They have many limitations such as not being able to adopt children with their significant others or even have the same rights and benefits that heterosexuals do as far as marriage goes. LGBT are breathing the same air as we breath, eating the food we eat, wearing the clothes that we wear and living in houses just like anyone else, why judge them if the only difference they might have is who they prefer to share their love with. Marriage should be from one spouse to another not from gender to gender.
