Safe working practices in a laboratory are regulated to ensure a safe and manageable environment within a laboratory in order to make practises efficient and safe. In a laboratory all staff and employees should know the types of hazard they are dealing with when it comes to chemicals and substances, they should also be aware of events that they may have never come across before and they also need to be aware of the personal protective equipment and facilities that reduce the risks which include showers and eye wash stations and in order for these facilities to be useful and effective then lab workers must know where these are located and how to operate them to ensure safety when using such equipment.

Having safe practices will also have a positive effect on quality, efficiency and effectiveness. They will also prevent injury, illness as the practices control potential hazards. Furthermore the safe work practices have a role to fulfil the different legislation requirements to guide workers on how to correctly take care within a work place.
