Everything comes with a price, especially college education. The University of Iowa’s webpage, 2013-2014 Undergraduate Cost of Attendance states that, “these expenses represent average amounts” (3). Most costs vary depending on duration and living plans for the students. For a student living on campus, the estimated total price is around $20,691. Tuition fees, and housing and meals, normally add up to be about $17,485, out of the total. Then there is the books, personal, and transportation fees which end up being $3,206. For many families, that ends up being quite a bit of money. But both schools allow the use of financial aid or even loans to pay for the college education.
Iowa State University is a land grant school which, among other things, means that the university gets money from the state of Iowa from the taxes that residents pay to the state. Because of this in state residents who choose to go to the university do not have to pay a large amount of money while out-of-state residents have to pay almost twice as much. Iowa State University does not have reciprocity, meaning that even residents from the surrounding states, Minnesota, Illinois, etc., have to pay full out-of-state tuition. Out-of- state residents have to pay about $9000 a year for tuition, while Iowa residents pay only about $2500 per year. (See fig1 for semester costs)
• make satisfactory academic progress (successfully complete courses with grade of A, B, C, D or P at least 66% of the hours attempted each term with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above.)
The ACT requirement is 19. The SAT requirement is 980. The GPA is 3.0. It takes 15 total hours of specific high school classes, this includes Math, English, History, Science, Art, or a Foreign Language.
Since BSC is Test Optional, I believe that there should not be a test score requirement. I believe the minimum GPA to apply should be a 2.5. I believe a separated essay and interview should be required for this scholarship. A scholarship committee should produce possible scholarship questions. The deadline shall be February 1st.
Graduating from high school is a proud moment in every student’s life. They must prepare what comes next for them whether it’s to get a job, start a career, or pursue continuing education. The cost for a college education can be overwhelming. There are many factors that play into the cost of going to secondary education. College tuition, fees, books, supplies, transportation, personal expenses, room and board. These expenses can vary for public community colleges and four year universities, public or private universities, and state residents or out of state residents. Community college tuition can range from $1,000-$12,000 for state residents and $4,000-$30,000 for non-residents. Four year college tuition can range from $4,000-$16,000 for state residents and $10,000-$35,000 for non-residents. Private four year institutions can cost as much as $25,...
“Colleges and Universities That Do Not Use SAT/ACT Scores for Admitting Substantial Numbers of Students Into Bachelor Degree Programs” Fairtest.org. Spring 2014. Web. 19 May 2014.
According to the Bowling Green State Website the average in-state student spends about “23,864 dollars a year” ("Cost Summary.”). That is about 95,000 dollars for a total of four years. Students traditionally take out subsidized and unsubsidized loans to cover the total cost of tuition. That may take students ten to twenty years to pay, but if rates are lowered so would the number of loans taken out every year to cover the cost of tuition.
Princeton University has several admission requirements that allow them to select the right students for their purpose of success. The admissions office strives in the pursuit of individuals with intellectual inquisitiveness and for students who have aspired for and attained academic achievements (Admission Requirements - Princeton University; Princeton University - Academic Preparation). The school specifically, like many others, requires that a student has taken, and passed 4 years of English, mathematics, foreign language courses, and along with 2 years of laboratory science and history courses. Furthermore, they look for individuals that stand out in the selective process through the study of an art. In conclusion, Princeton University makes an effort to carefully and precisely select the correct students for their school and their endeavors.
Let’s consider how expensive Penn State is for students. Is it worth as much as $20,000 per year for in-state residents, and is it worth as much as $30,000 per year for students living outside of Pennsylvania? More and more students change their final decisions due to the expensive cost of attending specific colleges or universities. Towards these issues, I will perform a detailed evaluation so that students can be informed about the cost of tuition at Penn State.
At LSU the instate tuition with room and board is 14,788 dollars and the out of state tuition with room and board is $22,355 dollars (Us News. screen1). The cost of room and board at LSU is $10,804 dollars per semester. The rooms you can get are a single, double, CO- ED, or a quad, also if this is one chooses, they can have a fraternity or sorority (Us News, screen1). Florida State University doesn't come free though. Residents get off with a tuition cost of $2,196, but out of state gets stuck with a hefty tuition of $9,184(Choices, 3). On top of that both instate and out of state students have to pay $4,952 for room and board (Choices, 3). College isn't cheap, and then factor in books and any other fees such as Fraternities or Sororities and then it can get to be a lot of money.
Many college students cannot afford a college education without working long hours at one or more jobs, taking on heavy student loans, and using credit cards to make ends meet. Full time annual tuition now varieties from an average of $1,627 for a public community college to $15, 380 on average for a private college or university (Mutari, 303). At most colleges this does not include books, which are also expensive.
These days, colleges are seemingly endless money pits. Did you know that in 1970 at a public university, tuition on average was only $2,710? Today, we could only dream of it being so low. Once you start looking at the actual average prices of attending a college or a university, you start to think it’s a joke with how expensive it is. It’s definitely no joke. The annual cost for undergraduate tuition, room and board is estimated to be $12,804 at public institutions and $32,184 at private institutions for the 2010 academic year, according to the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics. That means that even a modest education—a bachelor’s degree from a public university or college—will cost at least $50,000. You can find cheaper colleges for example if you attended a community college, but many of those you cannot get more than a two year degree with. There are also colleges with pr...
Addition to the cost of textbooks and tuition, students still must pay for housing and for commute. Most student must take a part time jobs while being a full-time student to pay for their housing, textbooks, etc. They have very little studying time. For example, I personally am work part time and I am also a full-time student. I do not have a lot of time to study because I have to work to pay for my commute, housing, textbooks and the net price. Tuition alone is not the cost student must pay, but also for housing and other stuff. According to pbs.org website, A sophomore, Samantha Yazzie has to borrow $20,000, not for tuition, solely for housing during her freshman year alone. “I worry about paying it back,” said Yazzie.
