On July 17, 1950, Little Company of Mary hospital was the location of the first organ transplant in medical history. At age 49, Ruth Tucker “suffered from polycystic kidneys” and was in need of a new one. Her family also suffered from this disease, losing her mother and sister to it as well. It was five weeks before Tucker and the hospital would receive a healthy kidney as a donor. During the operation, about 40 doctors were there looking on the operation. The entire procedure took about 45 to 60 minutes to complete, starting at 11:30 am. Several papers and magazines, including Newsweek and TIME, reported on the procedure, calling it courageous and brave. Annie Turnbo Malone was an entrepreneur and was also a chemist. She became a millionaire by making some hair products for some black women. She gave most of her money away to charity and to promote the African American. She was born on august 9, 1869, and was the tenth child out of eleven children that where born by Robert and Isabella turnbo. Annie’s parents died when she was young so her older sister took care of her until she was old enough to take care of herself.
Ruth Posner is one of the many few holocaust survivors and a great dancer, choreographer and actress. Ruth was born on April 20, 1933, in Warsaw. She was raised in a Jewish family with her parents, but went to a Catholic school. At home, she spoke Polish. Ruth suddenly started hearing offensive comments by some of her close Polish Catholic friends. They said things like “you killed Christ.” It was an incredible shock.” That was just the beginning. By the time she was just 12, and the Second World War was underway, Ruth had lost both her parents and her world as she knew it. She was in the middle of the Holocaust.

She was the first African American Texas state senator. Jordan was also a debater, a public speaker, a lawyer, and a politician. Barbara Jordan was a woman who always wanted things to be better for African Americans and for all United States citizens. “When Barbara Jordan speaks,” said Congressman William L.Clay, “people hear a voice so powerful so, awesome...that it cannot be ignored and will not be silenced.”
Rachel Dein is a London Based artist, who studied Fine Arts at Middlesex University . She is most famously known for her tiles made of cement and plaster featuring molds of flowers. She currently runs and owns the Tactile Studio in North London to support herself and her three children. Before setting up her own studio, but after going to art school, she decided to take up an apprenticeship at The Royal Opera House and later branched out to other theaters to continue her prop making career including The English National Opera, The West End Theaters, London Transport Museum and Selfridges Christmas windows. Her time in prop making allowed her to explore her love of theatre, film, and opera while expanding her knowledge of 3d design. She also enjoys gardening, which is where she has gotten some of the materials for her craft.

Miller was born in Poland of 1938, she is the youngest out of four children. She had two brothers and a sister. Her sister Sabine was her idol and she always looked up to her. Rachel and her family was born Jewish. Miller showed photos that her family had taken together and she named almost everyone in those photos. Her father moved them to Paris because he did not want to serve in Poland army. Once her family moved to Paris her happy childhood began to fade. Her father and uncle was the first to be taken to the concentration camps. They were allowed visitors so her mother insisted her father three times a week. Ruby Bridges is a girl known for her courageous actions. Ruby went to a school that would discriminate colored people in the 1960s. She was the first African American to go to an all white school. Ruby Bridges was an American activist who became a symbol of the civil rights movement. An activist is someone who campaigns to bring about political or social change.
The voices between male and female freedoms and privileges were very unequal, and usually females were limited and ignored if they stood up for what they believed in. Women constantly fought for the right to speak at all in the conventions of social organizations, but overtime one women started the push forward to women’s right; Susan B. Anthony. Susan B. Anthony was a leader who gained justice through her speech, “On Women’s Right to Vote”. She was a prominent force of nature, and led the charge in women’s suffrage. Through her tactics and protesting, she made her name known throughout the entire world. Susan B. Anthony was one of the early leader to make a step forward in creating equality between men and women.
Lois Weber Lois Weber was born on June 13, 1879 in Allegheny, Pennsylvania, USA and died on November 13, 1939 in Hollywood California, USA by a Stomach ailment. Lois was a silent film director and one of the first woman directors. She started her career alongside her husband Phillips Smalley. After a couple of films that they made they went to Universal in 1916.
