Over the course of the American history, the constitution has been the core foundation of our government. The rule of law, for example, has been a crucial portion of the constitution; it suggests the idea that no one is above the law, including the president. The idea of this principle originates from various revolutions around the world such as Great Britain and the United States. One of the examples could be seen through the Glorious Revolution, where the British Parliament and the British people revolted against King James II, who abused his power against the people of his own country. As a result of this revolution, the English Bill of Rights was established which was incorporated into our constitution today: natural rights, for example. …show more content…

How is the rule of law applied today? The rule of law allows the citizens to keep the government accountable. An example of rule of law is seen through the actions of President Trump. He has recently pardoned Joe Arpaio, who has been charged for criminal contempt relating to immigration policy. The court has ordered him to not detain suspected undocumented immigrants, however he ignored the order for about seventeen months. Despite all these infamous actions, President Trump still pardoned Joe Arpaio from his crimes. More shockingly, he made the decision without the consent of the judicial branch, which goes against the rule of law provided in the constitution. If the president’s actions were not addressed by the public, it would have meant that the rule of law no longer is effective. However, it is proven to be still applicable in today’s society. Because individuals pointed out the mistakes of President Trump. For example, in the article “President Trump Grants Pardon for Former Sheriff Joe Arpaio”, “Republican Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake said … ‘I would have preferred that the President honor the judicial process and let it take its course’”.Being able to have people who expresses their opinions based on the constitution shows that the rule of law still exists. It emphasizes the fact that all citizens have their own fundamental rights and ideas.
