The zombie sequence has become extremely popular with the increase of novels and films recently produced. George Romero and Maximillian “Max” Brooks are two popular screenwriters focusing on zombie stories and horror films. George Romero is an American-Canadian film director and producer best known for his horror film Night of the Living Dead (Staff, 2012). Max Brooks is an American horror author and screenwriter best known for his novel and now film World War Z (Staff, 2012). Romero and Brooks are both zombie fanatics who have many similar interest in undead creatures and numerous differences as well. The ideal view preferred in society is fast-moving zombies. Both authors scripts reflect this preference. Romero and Brooks are both talented authors in showing others their beliefs in zombies. During George Romero’s interview with Steven Mackenzie, Romero was asked for his opinions on why zombies are trending (James, 2013). Romero’s opinions are “they are hot and they have become a huge business, economic engine” (James, 2013). Romero is acknowledged as the “father of zombies” ;therefore, Mackenzie asks his opinion on how he feels about his nickname. Romero answers this question by criticizing Brooks’s film stating, “The walking dead is just a soap opera with the occasional zombie and I did not want any part of it” (James, 2013). Romero states in his interview that in his films he has never called these undead creatures “zombies.” He simply calls zombies people rising from the dead (James, 2013). Romero does not believe zombies are able to run; he says the zombies in World War Z move like “army ants” (James, 2013). Romero’s best known movie, Night of the Living Dead, frustrated many people. Romero responded, “if no... ... middle of paper ... ... similar but different characteristics in their zombies. Now, both produce films with fast paced zombies, instead of the ideal slow-moving zombies. In recent years, zombies have become more popular and fascinating to our society. This has resulted in many new zombie books, television shows, and movies. George Romero and Max Brooks do a great job of keeping their own ideas and characteristics of zombies in their writings. Romero says the day will never come when zombies take over and Brooks believes we are awaiting a zombie invasion, so both are extending their passion for zombies to the society. Regardless of the difference between Brooks and Romero’s opionons of the zombie fantasy is in high demand and Romero states in a different perspective that “Zombies have become a huge business, an economic engine—that’s what can’t be stopped” (The Big Issue).
