Essay- Romeo & Juliet
Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet shows us the different beliefs about love. These beliefs are shown through various characters in the play. He mainly shows it through Romeo, Juliet, and Mercutio. Therefore, Mercutio is a physical lover, and Romeo is a Romantic lover. In the beginning of the play, Romeo is a physical lover too, but after his relationship with Juliet, he turns into a romantic lover. Juliet, daughter of Capulet, did not have any beliefs about love till she meets Romeo. Shakespeare tries to show two different sides of a love through his play, Romeo and Juliet.
Mercutio, not only believes in physical love, but he also makes fun of romantic love. He makes fun of ancient lovers as he says "speak to my gossip venus like one fair word, one nickname for her purblind son and heir, young Abraham Cupid, he that so trim, when lung cophetua loved the begger maid"(Romeo and Juliet, 2, 1, 10-15).
