"When you got nothing. You got nothing to lose." says Jack, the lover of Rose when describing his philosophy on his life and this describes how he feels about Rose, he has nothing to lose so he goes for her. Titanic is a film that demonstrates strong similarities to "The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare. Through the use of tragic hero's and fatal flaw both stories communicate the theme that falling in love quickly can end in disaster.

In the beginning of “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet”, they say, “Oh, she doth teach the torches to burn bright! / It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night / Like a rich jewel in an Ethiope’s ear, / Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear. / So shows a snowy dove trooping with crows / As yonder lady o'er her fellows shows. / The measure done, I’ll watch her place of stand, / And, touching hers, make blessèd my rude hand. / Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight! / For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night” (Shakespeare 1.5.42-51). This shows how he quickly gets over Rosaline and instantly thinks that Juliet is the most beautiful thing he has ever laid his eyes on. Similarly in Titanic, Rose leaves her family and Cal and runs up to the deck and climbs up over the railing of the ship. Jack sees her and instantly falls in love by saying if she jumps he will have to jump after her and he really doesn't want to do that. He could have just ignored her and would have never got caught up in the mess, but he believes that she is the one for him even though she is already engaged to Cal. This shows how Juliet also wants to move very quickly through their relationship and how they later do end up getting married within a few days of meeting each other, it shows how Romeo is moving too quickly through the relationship. However in Titanic, Jack and Rose never have plans to marry each other but that doesn’t stop Jack from falling in love with her. Even though many times he is told to stay away from Rose, he can’t stop going towards her all the time. This shows how his love for Rose can't be contained even though she is in love with someone
