Dark Romanticism was the writing movement that was popular during the mid nineteenth century . Two stories that are good examples of Dark Romanticism are The Raven, and THE TELL-TALE HEART and both are written by Edgar Allen Poe. Both of these literary pieces are good examples of what the literary movement America was experiencing at the time. During this period America was in a reconstruction state due to the ending of the Civil War. Edgar Allen Poe’s narrative poem, The Raven is interesting and shows dark romanticism. It mentions a raven as a character that represents a messenger from afterlife to life as a way for the man who is leaning towards insane to have some hope for the fate of his loved one Lenore. The man asked of the fate of Lenore and the Raven throughout the poem responds saying what the man believes is “Nevermore”. One of the most lonely moments in life is after experiencing the loss of a loved one and this loneliness is key to unlocking extreme emotion and deep reflection as also found in romanticism. Romanticism is shown by the narrator grieving his wife who has passed away leading his imagination to create this bird that help him cope his wife’s wife death, with causes him to go mad. One similarity is that they are written by the same writer. Also they both show romanticism by portraying a dark or gothic mood. Edgar Allen Poe Was good at writing and was one of the first writers to become well known from just writing in America. You can tell the similarities between the two literary papers if you read both, because both involve a first person perspective of a character that has psychotic issues. This can be seen when in the Raven, the man is getting mad at a bird he is talking to. Also in THE TELL-TALE HEART, The main character explains how he isn’t insane and how he killed his master because his masters eyes bothered
