What is Romanization? Romanization is defined as tying the Roman Empire together through administration, political participation, trade, culture, transportation, communication and religion. Essentially, Romanization was produced to unite countries, so there would be peace in Rome, but it was also an adapting and flexible process. Rome frequently believed that it would be better to attack your enemy first rather than have your enemy attack you first. So this concept of Romanization was a surprising development. The important aspects of Romanization would be how Rome was before it became an empire, the major changes that Romanization brought and the major changes after the fall of Rome. Rome as a Republic was the time before Rome became an empire and before it was romanized. When Rome was a Republic it had a Senate and a Plebian assembly. Because of Romanization, Latin became the main language of Rome and almost everyone knew it. Romanization was developed to try to create an empire that could bring money and peace. They were not trying to have everyone be Roman because it would quickly cause conflict with born-Roman citizens. Although Romanization provided many benefits, there were some problems that arose because of Romanization. “Since at Rome there is no place for honest pursuits, no profit to be got by honest toil---my fortune is less to-day than it was yesterday, and to-morrow must again make that little less.” (On the City of Rome) This quote discusses how there is no money in Rome; it’s important because it shows the other side of the changes occurring through Romanization. There was also poorly built buildings that had things falling down from the windows /roofs, too many fire incidents and also real-estate
